Hurrah, darkening days!!! I am of the camp that actually is happy when I wake to a rainy day- I love meeting others who can understand and in the Pacific Northwest, one would expect to find at least a hearty part of the populace to be grey rainy day lovers. The rich change of weather in these regions is one of the most attractive parts of the area. Welcome Autumn!

I used to hate gray, rainy days, but now I love them. I don't understand why my change in attitude occurred, but somehow I just expanded my definition of beauty. Unless you have SAD, why should a rainy day be inherently depressing? That's a rhetorical question, because I can't fully explain my tastes in food, art, music, clothing, etc., either. They, too, have changed over time.

Moderator's Note:

So here's the deal, folks.

Let's cut the OP some slack and take him at his word that he was merely musing over phenomenon of reduced daylight hours.

In that vein, let's then all accept that the slant of the planet leads to an ever-shrinking ration of daylight in northern latitudes from now until December 21...........when, magically, our days will slowly lengthen again.
