Default Neighborhoods (suburbs) in Portland area

Hello:

My family and I are considering relocating to Portland from Southern California.

We are wondering which neighborhoods / suburbs to explore for our relocation.

We are looking for a safe, family oriented neighborhood and also in the 200-300K range?

Also would love to be as close to outdoor activities as possible - lake, hiking/biking, etc.

Thanks much for any help in advance.

Regards,
Ron

Lake Oswago is a burb south of Portland but the prices are going to be a bit higher. Go further out from Portland to the west for more palces and possibly lower prices.

A lot is going to depend on where you work or are looking to work. A half hour commute is almost considered excessive, not because it's easy to get around but because we don't like to commute.

That said, a bigger hurdle is the $200k - $300K home price. You'll either need to find a fixer or move a little farther out from Portland. But again, if you work close to home it doesn't matter.

A neat thing about Portland is that the commute doesn't last long. It's easy to get downtown in evenings or weekends.

Help us out some and tell us a little more about likes and dislikes and what an ideal situation would look like...
