Oh, dang-it, back to Google for another search. I hope the Google search engine won't laugh at me for asking for an authentic Kosher Deli restaurant in Portland.

You need to go to Kornblatt's on NW 23rd around and Irving. The corn beef is delicious. You can also get blintzes, kreplach, matzo ball soup, knishes and kischke. They even make phosphates.

Thanks Minerva..
{but you do realize with all these blonds (guys and gals) in Portland, I didn't think there was any deli places in Portland, and darn few authentic Italian places either. Now I know I was wrong on both accounts.}

You get a big hug also. Thanks.

Phil

PS: Did I hijack this thread because I am on a diet, and hungry all the time?

angela_19722001 is on a distinguished road
I have had friends from grade schoo or at least adolescence, and yes they are still in my life but I am at a point whre I need to broaden my horizons and reinvent myself. a part of that is taking myself out of the environment i am accustomed to and putting myself out there in "open water" so to speak! You guys think its tough in Portland with transplants, try living in Florida! There is no concept of a "native" anymore. Globalization and world travel have blurred the distinction so we best just get used to it and see one another as human beings instead. I have heard noting but rave reviews about Portland in regards to its culture, music, community, and environmental awareness and I have to say that this line of discussion is very disappointing :-(

Angela:

I am sorry you feel that way, but, please, could you be a bit more specific about what you are objecting to? Feel free to start a new thread about what you are objecting to..

Just so you know, I am over 60 years old, and have moved to Portland only last summer. It just breaks my heart to see so many young people who have also arrived in Portland and are now begging on the streets for food, money, pan-handling, or just trying to get by because there are no jobs for them and housing options are limited, This is reality of Portland. Don't move here without knowing how you are going to live for at least 6 months.

However, since you are a nurse, here is a link to the local newspaper:
Oregon Local Jobs - OregonLive.com
There is usually a long list of health care jobs available every day. Sometimes 50 or more health care related jobs. Surely a few will be in your area of expertise.

Yes, Portland is a great and wonderful town. I just love it here. But Portland city is not for everybody. It is unique, and a bit disconcerting to a few who are accustomed to suburban life in many parts of USA. I have found so many of the posters on this sub-forum are just trying as best they can to inform people of the reality that is Portland.

I wish you the best.

Phil

Angela, I have lived here for 30 plus years and have seen a lot of changes. I won't say they are for the better or worse because I believe that is very subjective. I will say that you have to take those glowing reports with a large grain of salt. They are usually written by people who do not live in the places in which they are writing about.

You really have to do some intense visiting or even temporary living in a place to see if it suits you. Portland has its good and its bad like any other place. It is neither Nirvana nor Hell. But like most locations somewhere in between.

It's in the eye of the beholder. For example I don't care for most of the way the town has changed and for many reasons am planning to move to another city as soon as I find one that suits me. But you may love it here.

Two pieces of advice I will give you; first, if you come here either secure a job first or bring enough money to live on for as long as you want to test the waters and leave some aside to relocate or return back home if it comes to that.

The second is keep an open mind; If you follow the first suggestion, explore the things that suit you for yourself and don't rely so much on what you have read about living here.

So true. It's full of transplants. One reason I haven't had any trouble making friends there. Like most transplant towns, everyone's in the same boat.
