Are you going back to the PNW? I feel the same way about the endless, blinding Florida sun. I'm tired of the exhaustive heat and it's only June.

I'd sure like to. Not sure where, but I know Florida or the South isn't a good fit for me. I probably should have left years ago, but I raised a family, started a career- the usual reasons why people stay in a place they really don't like.

Could you honestly share with us what exactly you don't like about the South and the Florida?

Weather and politics, pure and simple.

Yes, those were my two main reasons for leaving Florida as well. Even if Florida actually became more liberal, the weather would still make it uninhabitable for me. It was just starting to get hot when we left at the beginning of May, and though we had a challenging drive here, it was SOOO worth it to get away from Florida's big bake.

I did not know that Florida the South has politics. I spent several months in Florida and had to get out because of the combination of the moldy air and corrupt institutions and unfair business practices got to me. I think Columbia, SC area even if still somehow humid is probably the best climate the SE can offer, not sure about the politics as I don't care about any of the U.S. Politics at all, especially after the big scam almost a decade ago.

If someone sends me an official signed and notarized invitation to PNW I will take it seriously and visit you as a guest and a friend.

Here is an interactive map compiled from IRS data, just click on Multnomah county....it looks like a LOT of people from California are still moving here, but people seem to be moving out more eastward. Map: Where Americans Are Moving - Forbes.com
And then, here is the U-Haul data showing us to be the 3rd highest growing metropolitan area.U-Haul Ranks Bronx, N.Y. as 2009 Top U.S. Growth City - MarketWatch.
People just keep coming.

I think Jim's issue is nobody is going to hire you from out of state unless you flew to Portland with interviews lined up. As long as you have the money to sustain yourself why not. Ohio just like my home town of Michigan sucks with 6 months of brutal winters.

That's a good question. I have tried moving to Portland with out a job. And its not the business. Getting a job there is no joke. Why cause they are looking for pple who has years of experience. Not months. So if you Dnt have a connection to help you get some kind of job it will not work out. I know and I have move back to Vegas. And I found a job but it suck lol

Really interesting website. Looks to me like the outward migration from Multnomah County is to the southwest. Only a few spots in the east - interestingly enough, not NYC.

I find it fascinating how many counties, people are only moving one county away, either in or out.
