It might not be the city for you. What drew you to Portland in the first place. My dad is from Houston originally and he says he gets a bad, creepy feeling whenever he visits, even though he grew up there.

On the other hand, maybe its you, not the city. You could try seeing a therapist.

If I were to make one suggestion as someone who has SAD it is getting serious now - this is the time of year that is challenging. Take a look at whether you felt this way a few months ago in June. If you feel a craving for the sun at all, look into what SAD is and get some form of treatment. The feeling of darkness won't end until about March. Some of you might say - oh but it was beautiful yesterday! - but sun breaks and a few sunny days here and there aren't enough to counteract the amount of cloudy dark days if one is vulnerable to it. I seriously think about moving sometimes even though I am managing it more carefully this year than others.

Okay reason #2 I'd speculate - traffic, horrible, and strange roads that end and pick up again blocks later. That'll give you TMJ right there.
Prior post from 8/24/09 same person: Portland is all that I want in a city, yet I feel stressed and agitated here.

Low vitamin D levels can make a person miserable. I had mine checked for the first time & now I take a prescription for it... It has made a REMARKABLE difference. The first month I felt high from the new vitamin d coursing through my system.

Very well could be the seasonal gloom as well. It's starting to bring out the agitation in quite a few folks. Supposedly 59% of the city suffers from seasonal depression.
