I'm going to be moving to Portland (NE) in a few months and I was wondering if there are any decent photo labs around town that I can trust my Black and White film to that actually knows what theyre doing. A choice of matte or glossy paper, with or without borders, sloppy/torn borders etc. I dont mind machine printing as long as it look good, though I'd like to find a lab that does enlargements on an enlarger..

You might try Citizens Photos. I had great service from them with my b&W photos a bit ago when I was doing that kind of thing.

My Dad (amateur photographer) makes regular trips into Quick Stop Photo in Portland.

They do custom enlargements, devloping, etc., and have always been easy to work with.

There is also Pro Photo Supply on NW Northrup.

Citizen's Photos just moved to SE 7th @ Morrison.

Stop fighting and go digital . 5mp is film, 7mp is 100 ASA film, 12mp you can blow up to... bigger than there is paper to print it on.

How far NE? There are a few good photo places. I use Citizen's Photo for black and white, C41 and E6 (all in-house!).

If you're at all close to St. Johns, there's a place called Blue Moon Camera & Machine that is one of the few, if only, places that do traditional black and white printing (not scan -> print).

There's also Quick Stop Photo, whose name doesn't sound appealing, but they actually do traditional black and white, C41 and E6 in-house (to my knowledge).

Then there's Pro Photo Supply, which has a more "corporate" feel to it, although it's a great store for the newest in equipment.

If you're inclined, you can rent a darkroom at DIGICRAFT® Business Graphics, Drum and Flatbed Scanning, Mounting and Laminating, Digital Photo Processing, Enlarging, Fine Art Printmaking, Portland, Oregon and do it yourself. They offer developing, enlarging and printing services also. They've moved heavily into digital imaging in recent years but they still have their film facilities.

Digicraft Business Graphics mentioned above in #7 is now closed - The fellow has started another business Zentwig that still does fine work, they no longer offer the do-it-your-self portion.

I'd look at Blue Moon or Pro Photo. I think Blue Moon will do tank development too. I'm still weeping about the closure of a little place on SW 12th downtown that did passport photos/custom processing. That woman could push or pull the snot out of your film or give you a third of a stop tweak if that's what you needed. A true artist. Heck of a photographer as well. Guess the passport photos was there to pay the rent.
