Default native opinion of mass relocation to Portland...

I was wondering...

To all you current residents of Portland, what do you think of all the people who seem to be moving there?

And to people who have recently moved there, how have you adjusted? Do natives seem to accpet you, or are they resentful of newcomers?

I'll be attending Portland State Univeristy this winter, so I too will be a newbie. Anyone have some advice on making the transition? I'm moving from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

It seems to me that since Oregon is a fairly young state in the grand scheme of things, that there must be a large number of people who have recently settled there.
I'll be moving out there once my house sells and I know I'll be friendly towards the locals there as well as other new residents.
Good luck to you!!!

We moved to the NW from Iowa about 20 years ago. We've felt very welcomed. The post above is accurate. If you're friendly and not from California, you'll be fine.

The HATE Californians is a bunch of crap. I am sorry, but I am from Portland, and I have no problem with Californians. To test the whole hate for Californians, I did not take my license plates off my car after moving back here from San Jose. I recieved no hate -- none whatsoever. Also, when people ask me where I am from, I always say California, and nobody has ever said anything rude in return. Where do you all get the idea that Oregonians hate Californians? If you want to see a state that hates Californians, go to the hole in the ground Montana sometime. Even in their so-called progressive city (which is just a small town full of rednecks) Missoula, there is a ton of hate towards Californians.
