Default Advice Please?

Hi Guys, there is a possability that i could be emigrating to yourselves from the UK. as i am in disscussions with possable employers in Portland.
My questions?
Describe Portland?
What areas do i want to avoid to live in? and what areas would you recommend?
What is the realistic average wage in the area?
I know that these questions are very general but i would appreciate your honesty.
Thank you in advance for your input.

we'd need more of an idea of what you do and all first. Its pretty diverse, you have those who make over 100.00hr,(ya, that'd be my divorce lawyer for all the good she did me. lol) and then you have those who arent even at minimum wage. Id love to live up on Skyline and/or the West Hills, Pearl district can be awesome, but a little yuppy for me. Wouldnt live on Burnside/4th(hope my life never comes down to that!) People watching is great on the waterfront and also on 23rd. Portland is beautiful and full of gracious, incredible people on one block, and then you go down a few blocks and you couldnt pay me to walk down a street at noon by myself because there are people that are the lowest scum on earth waiting to rob/beat/rape/kill you.
Also, its all going to depend on if you have a family or not too, if youre looking into the single scene, nature person, yuppy, executive, family, homebody, elderly, active, barhopper, etc. -
