Awe.. I'm just pulling your tail Jake Seriously though, I know that Pear district wouldn't be right for me. I read many great things about Hawthorne that it's artsy, loaded with small independent shops and has a very hip vibe to it.I would like to get a place maybe (1-2 blocks) away from all the action and still be positioned well should I decide to go downtown.

What's the proximity between Hollywood, Sellwood, Hawthorne from each other and downtown?

Sellwood is really out there if you don't have a car as the bus service isn't great, plus it's more of a family place. I live in Goose Hollow and it's easy to get everywhere. You might also look into some of the North Portland areas along the Yellow line. There are a lot of cool and arty areas, with a lot cheaper rent than Hawthorne or "hip" SE spots. There's a shuttle that runs from PSU to the community colleges so as long as you live near one you can get to the other pretty easily with the free shuttle.

Sounds like good advice. I'm not looking to buy a car unless I absolutely have to. I'm loking at Portland because of its progressive public transit, which I hear is very good?

Is SE Portland/Hawthorne expensive? I'm sure it's alot cheaper than Pear District but I bet it still costs huh?
What's a one bedroom apartment go for in the area?

I'm considering GOOSE HOLLOW, that's one option. I like the fact that you're close to everything as that's important to me, especially when it's drizzling...lol

How would you describe the vibe in North Portland vs SE Portland?
Perhaps when and IF I decide to start a family "Sellwood" would be good. I like the hippy/organic peace loving atmosphere. I also enjoy local independent art, food and music...So it's a fair balance between a quiet home and an entertaining nightlife. So long as it's as low cost as possible I'd be happy.
