Default Resources for finding a rental home and good schools

We are almost definitly moving to Portland! There is a company that is VERY interested in my husband and they are flying him out for a second interview. It looks promising. Now we have to settle on a neighborhood and find a rental that has a good school for the kids (in case we don't get in to the charter school where they are on the wait list.)

So, I'm looking for more resources that are good for finding rentals and cross-referencing the addresses with their neighborhoods and schools?

Here's what I'm using so far
-http://portland.craigslist.org/apa/ for rental properties
-http://www.portlandmaps.com/ for finding out all kinds of info on the neighborhood: crime, census, transportation, nearby parks and schools
-I use the satillite option on http://maps.google.com/ to show what's around the neighborhood and how many trees are around/size of yards, etc.

Is the Oregonian a good source? Should we subscribe or just look through their online classifieds?

For schools, I'm looking at their webpages and report cards. Does anyone have any other school rating websites? Maybe with parent reviews? It's so hard to get a feel for a school without visiting in person.

Thanks for any info!

Ok, I'm going to answer my own question here and hope that some of you find it useful.

I've been reading through the Portland Public School website and found a wealth of info there. Particularly helpful is their school catalog. Check it out here:

2006-2007 School Catalog

It has a PDF with descriptions and ratings of all the PPS schools. And for more detailed info try the enrollment profile here:
