Also, the rule taught in school (is it still)?:
I before E, except after C, and in sounds of long A, like neighbor and weigh.
Emoreigh, therefore, should be Emoriegh ... or be pronounced like eMORay.
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's Emoreigh ...

The name "Leigh" has been around for centuries, and is pronounced "Lee".

True, but when people encounter a new word, they are more likely to adhere to the overwhelming norm, not the exception. I'm also trying to think of a name I have seen with "eigh" that doesn't use "leigh," like Hayleigh and Kayleigh. Anneigh? Kateigh? Maddeigh?
I guess I should be glad I wasn't born 30 years later. I might have ended up a Juleigha.

I was taught i before e except after c UNLESS FOLLOWED BY G. (except, except, except) but the outcome is still the same, you still put ei, but the rhyme i was taught doesnt say anything about long A. I think in situations like that you just ask. Simple.

Emoreigh? Sounds like it would be pronounced ee-mo-ree. Emo is genre of music that typically features sad songs and "emo" kind of has a negative, depressing connotation ("stop acting so emo"), at least w/ my generation.
I'm not sure how I like the "eigh" being proceeded with an "r"- it doesn't work as well as when it's preceded by an "l", IMHO. From what I've seen, the "ly" ending could be replaced with "leigh" and keep the pronunciation, but I don't ever recall seeing a "ry" ending replaced by "reigh" and keep the pronunciation. When I see "rei" together, I'm compelled to pronounce it in the same way as "reign" and "reindeer", with a "ay" sound.

Gosh I hope I'm not too late to add my two cents.
Given the insane trend toward "trendy" names....
how about..... Em'oureigh or M-ohree or Emohree
I cry because nobody names their daughters Norma or Sandra or Virginia any more.

Yeah thought about it last night and I think Emery is the best or even Emary sounds nice. The Emoreigh is just to much for the kid.
