Default Painting the house while we 'may' be pregnant....

hi, we think we may be pregnant.....and we were planning on painting the house.....painting should take about 4-5 days....

i was wondering if you all know anything about whether painting/fumes/etc. is ok or not ok while in the first few weeks of pregnancy.
ps. the paint will be done using brushes, not spray (if that makes any difference.)

please let me know if you know anything about this subject, and if possible, site your sources.

Are you painting the whole house? If so - I'd hire someone to spray and get it done more quickly.

We used a low odor paint when we painted the nursery (Serena and Lily brand if it matters). BabyGirl was sleeping in our room at the time anyway.

I don't think that there's much danger to the baby so early , esp if you use paint designed to not emit odors/chemicals/fumes. However, if your wife is in the early stages of pregnancy she might be VERY sensitive to smells..

I would use a low VOC paint, keep all of the windows open until the smell is gone and not have the one who is actually pregnant do any of the painting or be in the room with the paint or the fumes. The first trimester is a time to stay away from chemicals and fumes. Can you take a pregnancy test before you start?

Thanks guys,
we won't be doing the painting ourselves......i'll ask the company to use VOC paint (even though it might be more expensive. i think it'll be well worth it)
yes, we're painting the whole house.
yes, she will take the preg. test before to be certain.

I painted my living room and dining room over the holiday week prior to our family party a week before I found out I was pregnant. I LOVE the smell of paint and I remember breathing it in deeply as I painted the rooms. I was late, but sometimes I'd gone 40, 50 days between periods and after several years of not using birth control, I figured I was probably unable to conceive. I hadn't gotten to a point where I was going to see a doctor to check for infertility yet, but I just assumed my period was doing a 40-day jump again. The next week I noticed I had lost my appetite and was getting waves of sudden tiredness sitting at my desk in the middle of the day, so I ran upstairs to our medical department for a blood test, and sure enough, I was actually pregnant. I thought about that paint on and off for the next eight months!

I painted my livingroom while pregnant. I just made sure the room was well ventilated and I wore a mask.

My kid came out fine.

Well...that third eye on my daughter's forehead causes some heads to turn when we're out, and the special-made glasses cost a fortune, but man, does she have great eyesight.

Too funny!

I do understand the OP's concerns though.

Of course! If she didn't worry, she wouldn't be normal.
