My husband went to most of my appointments, work permitting. I think he may have missed one or two, but no more than that. My daughter is now 10 years old.

My husband went to all the prenatal appointments he could with me. She was growing in me, but she was his kid too.

I have a very hands-on, involved husband, but I'm surprised at how many posters said their husbands went to all or almost all of their appointments. Most of the time, there isn't much to it. Measure the belly, get weighed, listen to the heart beat. I mean, people have to work, and the appointments are every 2 weeks, then every week there at the end. That's a lot.

I've been seeing an OBGYN since I was 14. I dont plan on having children, but I swear every time I go to the doctors all I see is pregnant couples or women going through menopause. I sit FOREVER while all the pregnant women are greeted with enthusiasm and smiles and get seen immediately.

Irritates the hell out of me. I always say when the nurse finally comes to get me "Guess you have to be pregnant to get seen at your actual appointment time around here". They dont find it amusing.

hunters4life, that's why I changed doctors a few years ago. The pregnant women were getting seen before the older women past childbearing age. I waited far too long to see the doctor and the office staff openly treated the younger women warmly and were cold & indifferent to older ones.

I'm 26. Very child free though. I get the same reaction, like I should be pregnant but I'm really coming in to beg them to tie my tubes again. Yea, I'm a fun patient.

CSD610, you assume a lot. Maybe you just need more of the picture. I am not uncomfortable about going to dr. appts. I am not bothered to see couples in the waiting room. I feel a bit out of place and uncomfortable because all of the pregnant couples reminds me that I am not young anymore. My husband nor myself even thought about nor considered for him to go to my prenatal appointments. This was in the 80's. Men didn't go with their wives for this, at least not where we lived at the time. (small town, rural area)

P.S. I have an excellent doctor. I do not plan to change.

I guess it can go both ways. I go for my monthly check up now on a day that they only see pregnant women in the morning because it takes forever to get out of there when my doc is seeing women for their annual exam.

I'm 37 weeks and I nag my DH for not going, he refuses to go because....where I receive my prenatal care it is all just woman that go to the appointments, there are no couples. I understand how you feel dawren as I have had a pregnancy where I have been alone to these appointments and yes it does matter to us!
