I didn't read the article. So, it's a loan and not just a handout? That does make a difference. From the above posts I got the impression it was a land-grant, not a loan. Guess I should've read the article! Maybe I will...maybe.

Folks, please reread the article. The city is not GIVING $2.2M. The city is LOANING $2.2M at 6% interest.

Yeah, see my post above yours....and other posts above mine. Sounded like a grant, not a loan. If it's a loan to buy the property then sure, why not. They're paying for it.

Nope, still haven't read the article.

Well reading the article that I posted others that did not see, they say the city~how do you say taxpayers~will buy the land and lease it back to that portion is not a giveaway but a risk.
And it's $2 Million in money spent up front that I think is foolish.
The $200k for infrastructure is pretty much normal, and I agree with that.
But I am thinking that this is a grocery store that a lot of items are not taxed. So city sales tax does not really benefit.
And there are so many people here buy so much food, period. So I don't see how this type of store will make a good deal for Prescott.
There was an editorial in the paper a couple of days ago and it would appear that many residents in their response feel negative about the deal too.
Editorial: City should make Trader Joe's happen - The Prescott Daily Courier - Prescott, Arizona

Oh well, I guess to me it makes no difference anyway. I have never lived where their was a TJ nor have I ever been in one. So maybe I won't miss not having one.

They're building a new building where the sign is. Supposedly it's going to open before the end of the year, but they haven't broken ground yet.

Better stay away. You might get hooked. They have quite a selection of really good stuff. Fry's on Fair and New Frontier come the closest, now. We will not miss the drive to Phoenix for a TJ fix.

I went to their website to look at them.
My daughter says they went to them for some things when they lived in the valley and liked it.
Prescott is the first city setting that I have had in some time as I have lived pretty much rural for a long time and the towns that I shopped in were smaller and had the basics and not much more.
But that was OK too. I am a basic kind of guy!

I never bought their big chunks of milk chocalate that are on display by cash register, I always have been tempted to buy it. The TJ's in Scottsdale is the nicest TJ's I have ever been in and I have been in many. I like their hand creme and soaps. My neighbor says the frozen salmon is great.

Did you have to mention salmon? I grew up on the west coast and caught my share. I loved hanging around the wharf at Bodega Bay for the fresh stuff to while rving in the area over the years. I was just there last year and now it's a tourist trap!
Also spent time up in WA with the Army and then years later with a job transfer for the wife. Lots of good fishing!
I do miss salt water.
Love that fresh fish too.
