Looking to relocate away from winter and humid summers in a couple of years. My wife and I play quite a bit of golf. Would anyone offer opinions regarding the golf courses in the Prescott area - we would prefer to join a country club but not with $$$ initiation fees. Any info regarding the playability of the courses (open, tight, long, hilly etc) would be appreciated thanks - Mike

Hi Mike, here's the scoop on the golf courses:

Prescott Country Club: Private/Public. Prescott Golf & Country Club - Public Welcome Golf Course You can pay to play or you can join as a member. The initiation fee is small ($0-$500), the monthly fee varies depending on your membership type ($225-$308/mo). The course is very playable. The rough is forgiving. The terrain is level to slightly hilly and there are mature trees throughout the course. You can walk the course or ride. The course is in excellent shape. The members are pretty laid back and friendly. The course changed ownership on May 1st. The new owners are a wonderful husband and wife team who plan to focus more on members. They are here for the long term.

Quailwood Greens: Public. This is really an executive course. It's very short. Walk or ride.

Antelope Meadows: Public. Golf Course - City of Prescott, Arizona This course is owned by the city of Prescott. It surrounds the Prescott Airport. There are two mostly flat courses. The south course is newer. The north course is older with huge, mature trees. The course gets a lot of play and can be difficult to get a tee time.

StoneRidge: Public. www.stoneridgegolf.com You can pay per play or buy a pass for unlimited golf. The course is struggling a little bit. The course is extremely hilly. Expect to lose a lot of balls. The scenery is beautiful though. Carts only.

Prescott Lakes: Private. prescottlakesgolf.com: Home The course was recently purchased by the Arnold Palmer Group and they have turned the course from failing to succeeding. They ran some membership drives and really boosted the membership. The course is beautiful with rolling hills. Carts only. There is definitely a country club demeanor with the membership. Dress code is strictly enforced. E.g., no jeans.

Hassayampa: Private. Hassayampa Golf Club - Prescott, Arizona This is the oldest and most prestigeous course in the area. The course has been struggling and is currently in negotiations with the Arnold Palmer Group. The course meanders through beautiful scenery in a private, gated community. Carts only.

Talking Rock: Private. Golf in Prescott Arizona | Talking Rock This is a new course meandering through native grass and juniper terrain that is fairly flat. The course gets almost no play and you can get a tee-time whenever you want. Talking Rock is about 15 miles north of Prescott up Williamson Valley Rd.
