I wonder if there are figures on money spent in all Prescott restaurants. If the total dollar figure is down, it could be the economy. If not, not.

Perhaps sales tax figures would tell the tale.

We just went to Rosa's today to compare it with Bill's Pizza. We have heard a lot of people rave about Rosa's and they all said that the pizza was better than Bill's. Well, here's our take... Overall, we liked Rosa's. The service was great. The wait staff was very attentive. The ambiance was good. We liked the Italian theme, the chairs were comfortable, and we did not feel like we were cramped in. They have a full bar. The wine selection was decent. The beer-on-tap selection was reasonable. We had a caesar salad, which was delicious.

Now onto the pizza. In order to make an accurate comparison we ordered the identical pizza that we order at Bill's - a small pizza with italian sausage, kalamata olives, and artichoke hearts. And the result? ....drum roll please... Bill's pizza wins.

Sorry Rosa. Rosa's pizza is good, don't get me wrong, but overall, Bill's pizza is better. Rosa's pizza is more typical of your ordinary Pizza Hut or Papa John's kind of pizza. The pizza is heavy on cheese, which most people like. We find that the excess cheese drowns out the other flavors. The crusts are not dramtically different. Both Rosa's and Bill's have thinner crusts. Rosa's is a little thicker than Bill's, which also detracts from the variation in flavors. Rosa's did put more kalamata olives on, which was nice, but not enough to counteract the other factors. On a scale of 1-10, if Bill's is a 10, Rosa's would be a 7.5. It's better than most, but it's not Bill's.

We were really hoping that Rosa's would be as good or better. We really liked the other aspects of Rosa's better than Bill's, but in the end, the pizza rules the roost. We will be heading back to Bill's to get our pizza fix.

Supermarket Food, anyone?

Next time anyone is in Fries on Fair, as for a sample of the sushi counter's New York Crunch sushi. It is a little different from traditional sushi, but we often enjoy it. Ask for pickled ginger with it. You might not want it on the sushi, but it is just plain good by itself afterward.

Another favorite is the Safeway on Willow Creek's Chicago South Sider on Rustic Italian bread. With extra horseradish. We try to schedule our need for a sandwich with a trip there.

Guido's is good. Back Burner Cafe in PV is good breakfast too.

Brian, I have been wanting to try both places. I sure enjoy a good pizza but I haven't yet found what fits the bill. I love fresh ingredients on pizza and thin crust.

Just back from a trip to Prescott this weekend. Of all the dining experiences we had, two stand out:

1. On a recommendation, we tried Rosas. While the food was good, the service from our young male server left a LOT to be desired. How does an Italian food restaurant run out of bread? And please don't tell me that you are out of bread when most of the other tables around us HAVE bread. How do you explain that the table that sat down AFTER us HAD THEIR FOOD before we could even get attention for glasses of water & wine? More boring details are available, but I don't care how good the food is if you ignore us most of the night.

2. Taj Mahal: Absolutely the most fantastic overall experience of the weekend! We ordered family style in a group of eight. This is the first time any of us had tried Indian food. The menu was easy to understand, we had top notch service from start to finish, and everyone loved their food! Every dish was marvelous both in flavor and presentation! We did not try a single thing that we didn't like, and cannot wait to go again. As it turns out, our wonderful, personable server was actually the owner ;-) That explains a lot! He was so much fun and added a lot to the evening.

We had such night and day different experiences at the two restaurants, it was almost comical! We will definitely be back to Taj Majal, and hope for the owner of Rosa's that they get a handle on their service issues.

We also had a nice experience at Raven, and a "strange" experience at a chinese food restaurant. Is it always this hit and miss in Prescott?

LaBruzza's, Papa's, Dry Gulch. All good (some say great) but not near downtown. Downtown, the Bistro at St Michael's is good, I love the Lone Spur Cafe and even the Brewery is consistently ok. On the expensive but historic side you have the Hassayampa Inn and Murphy's. Even Esoji is very good Japanese, although too expensive for my tastes. Thai House Cafe serves good luncheon specials. And of course there's always Bill's pizza and Brown Bag Burger.

Hit or miss might be true for some places, but the ones that are full every Friday and Saturday night when the doors open, or for lunch or even breakfast are that way for a reason.

Somewhat. Where the hired help and service is involved, there is a lot of turnover, probably due to the low wages.

Sorry you had such a bad server. My experiences at "Rosa's" have always been wonderful - the service lightning quick.

I'll bet that kid doesn't last there long.
