I didn't mean to **** off anyone. It's just what I've seen here. I've lived in Phoenix for 4 years and just moved here, about 3 years ago. It's very, very different from what I'm used to being around with...Sorry...

Don't be sorry. Prescott/PV/CV isn't for everybody. If you're used to living in a city and you're single I can imagine that you would be bored up here. My kids had friends that were bored here and spent every weekend going down to Phoenix to hang out. They eventually moved back down to Phoenix.
I think it all depends on what you're used to. But seriously, about the toothless rednecks, etc, maybe Mayer and Cordes or maybe I'm just not paying attention.
The best to you as you move on.

The toothless rednecks she might have been referring to might be the tweakers (or is it tweekers) up here. You find them in the corner store, Safeway and the person at the drive thru window at a fast food joint.

That's true. I notice there is a high rate of people who are addicted to Meth, Marijuana, and Alcohol here. This is very true...

Here are some Prescott Questions:
I have a lot in Prescott Lakes. Anyone have any horror stories or good experiences there?
When I move, my oldest will be 13 and my youngest 9. Anyone know anything about Sacred Heart Catholic School? How is it compared to the public schools? Any chance of a Catholic High School anytime soon?

I actually have to kind of snicker at all these recent posts. Prescott is an area with a lot of retirees, and most people think it's too slow-paced around here. That's not to say that there's never any problems typical to an area of around 100k (including PV & CV), but I've never felt unsafe any time, even late at night. The Prescott Lakes area remains one of the most desirable areas for housing. The only complaint I ever hear about the subdivision is that the HOA dues are too high ($150-$180/mo).
I asked my hubby about the "toothless redneck druggies" and I guess we must be getting groceries at a different store or different time of day or something, because we're like "Huh???" with regard to those posts in this thread.
One thing I will say, politics is politics, and it doesn't get any better in a large city as opposed to a small town. It's just that in a small town you probably know more about the "dirt" than you do in a large city. We've had a couple of incidents come to the fore lately, and that's probably a good thing, because the politicians know somebody's watching them.
Anyway, I hope you understand that you're hearing from several really disgruntled people on this thread. Prescott/Prescott Valley hasn't turned out to be their ideal place to live, and they see things from a very negative point of view. They're entitled to that view, but there are MANY people here who have a much more positive point of view. Hope you'll read between the lines.

Most of what is wrong with Prescott is wrong in most towns, it's the times not the place.
Once ground was broken for the first building in Prescott Valley, and the town got it's first fast food place (not counting the Dairy Queen, it was the Sandy's across from the ball park) you just know you were doomed.
My solution was to move to CA and foul someone else's nest.

It's nowhere near that high. Maybe in the gated areas, but I'm on N. Lakeview, a public street. I think our HOA dues are $30.00 or $40.00 a month. BUT we have to pay for an athletic club membership even though we don't live there and THAT'S another $70.00 or $80.00. I'd give you my card to use, but now they have pictures on them.......I'm not too worried about the crime problem.....I lived and worked in the City of Detroit as a Detroit Police officer for a number of years and still work in a bordering suburb. Everything's relative. From reading the "police briefs" in the Courier, I don't think crime will be a major deal breaker with me. One you've lived in a reapeat winner of the "Murder Capital" title for a few years, Prescott looks like heaven. Meth. fiends and all.
It's funny to read the Daily Courier. They have the same gripes as the suburb I now work in. Number one is usually traffic. Too slow, too fast, too much.....Roundabouts, not enough stop signs, too many stop signs, photo radar is good, photo radar is bad......I just can't wait to retire and not have to listen to all the whining. If that's all people can think of to whine about, life must be pretty good. "There's Mountain Lions in my backyard!!" "They're going to make the Mountain Lions leave by transplanting the Antelope!" "The county assesor is in bed with the developers!!" "There's too many big box stores!" "There's not enough development, Prescott Valley is going to get all the good stuff!!" "You're using too much water!" "The Aryan Nation has infiltrated the Sheriff's Department!"
What about the schools? Know anything about any plans for a Catholic or other private high school in the next 4 years???

Yeah, I was talking the gated area. There's other non-gated areas that the HOA dues aren't bad at all. (Some with no HOA fees at all, even.) And folks coming from CA or FL think $150/mo is a real bargain.
and the, I loved your post. So true! Everything is relative, and one's viewpoint often depends on how your life is going at the time and what's affecting you personally.
Re schools, I don't know anything about a Catholic school. There has been talk of Christian Academy expanding to include a high school, but I haven't heard the latest on that. Since my kids have all graduated I'm not up on the school news.

I lived in Prescott for 10 years, and I wish I'd never left. It is a great town! (But don't tell anybody!)
