Prescott
Is anyone familiar with the Prescott area. We visited it two years ago and we really like it as a place to retire to.
If someone does know that area I will post my question, otherwise no need to take up space.

What towns surrounding Prescott have reasonably priced homes (up to $250,000)? Are there are places that you can get a small piece of poroperty with a house for that money? I'm talking 1/2 an acre or more.

Norm! Sorry, ever since watching old cheers reruns, I've always had the urge to do that.
Short answer: Don't think so..
Explanation: It depends on your luck, but, to the best of my knowledge, most area surrounding prescott is pretty pricey. But for land, and a house? I think you're going to have to hunt for it.

Thanks. I was afraid that would be your answer. When we were there 2 years ago houses in Dewey in the Prescott Country Club area were going for $175,000.

Yup, a lot has changed in the last 2 years! Anything in or around Prescott is pricey. I agree with CodyW that it will be a hunt.

Maybe Payson might be an option? It's a bit cheaper than Prescott, right?

I'm not sure about Payson, never looked at what their market is like. Interesting idea.

One thing I'd like to add about Payson, even though I've never been there...
I was talking to a coworker today who went up to Payson over the weekend. She was standing in line at the Denny's and some guy turned around and looked at them and said, "You must be from Phoenix, as you aren't a drug addict or alcoholic." Well, what a shocker, as this gal just looks like a regular person. I've been to Prescott (my former UC Berkeley business professor lives in Prescott) and I think you're going to find a different kind of person there, versus Payson. My two cents.

Norm,
The price range you are looking for may be found in Chino Valley, probably closer to Paulden....Good News, most lots have reasonable water tables for wells, Bad News, some of those lots are sitting in flood plains....Generally a flat terrain, that can get windy and cold during December through April. Find a good realtor, if you would like some referrals, let me know.
