Highway 89 widening project to start in fall - Chino Valley Review - Chino Valley, Arizona

Quote:
Chino Valley area residents will have an easier time traveling back and forth from the community to the Prescott area on Highway 89 after a long-awaited widening project is completed, but drivers will need a big dose of patience while the work is underway.
This took 10 years to get done since the initial assessment was done in 2004 and it will not be completed until 2014. I say better late than never and wider roads = wider growth with more business development and jobs for locals. I also would not be surprised if you see some large builders come back to the area to build homes once the road widening is completed. I say watch Chino explode after the road widening!!!!!!!

It was pretty slow even on a saturday between CV and Paulden when I drove up that way a month ago. The stretches were one lane only and the stop lights set up dictated who crossed. Even with that, I find Rte 89 a stress free alternative to the lunatics on I 17 when I head up north.

I thought the widening from 2 to 4 lanes was from Prescott to Chino Valley part of 89? Are they also extending the road on 89 from Chino to Paulden?

I live in PHX and always take the freeway bypass from 69 to 89 so I am not sure what is going on from Downtown Prescott near "Lucky Bucky's Casino" on up towards CV. I just know that on a couple stretches including a bridge between CV and Paulden it was one lane with stoplights directing who crossed the bridge and the speed limit was quite slow. However, I just love cruising from Paulden to Ash Fork. Can go 90 and never fear the fuzz.LOL

Chino Valley residents can learn about an upcoming road construction project tonight. Town officials are hosting a public meeting at 5 pm on the proposed extension of Center Street to Cactus Wren Drive. Town officials and the Design Engineer will discuss the project and answer questions. There will also be maps showing where the proposed improvements will take place. Construction on this project is set to start next year. The meeting will be held in Town Council chambers on South Highway 89.

"The project includes two more roundabouts, at the planned Kalinich Avenue in Chino Valley and one at Deep Well Ranch Road. "

I have to assume that 2 more roundabouts won't jive with the 65mph speed limit.

ADOT accepts Highway 89 widening construction bids Jan. 10

Cost for ADOT's part of the widening will be an estimated $25 million and will take about 15 months. The Town's portion of the Kalinich roundabout is $100,000.

ADOT District Engineer Alvin Stump in Prescott reports that about 20,000 vehicles a day use the highway.
