Default ERAU off-campus living

Lots of ERAU stidents and faculty are chosing to live off-campus.

Willow Ridge Apartments is a preferred choice for many. It is a very nice pet-friendly complex in Prescott, AZ. It is safe, offers spacious units and is conviniently located very close to shops, restaurants, downtown, schools (ERAU) and places of employment (i.e. Yavapai Medical, etc.).

The complex offers free WiFi which is a big plus for ERAU students and faculty. All units have large balconies/patios with extra storage. The setting is park-like and there's a brand-new playground with the climbing wall.

Management and residents are friendly and helpful. Maintenance issues are addressed the same day. Every few months or so there are fun outdoor events/activities.

Rates are quite reasonable a couple of months ago they were $628 for a 1/1 and $668 for a 2/2. I am not aware of a better complex to live at these rental rates.

Here's their website: www.willowridgerentals.com[/URL"]http://www.willowridgerentals.com

Gretchen B
Realtor

My husband and I are looking for a retirement spot possibly in Prescott. We would like about 45 areas to raise a little cattle and alpacas. We are going to build our own house of course. I speak a little spanish but would like to become fluent. How much would 45 areas cost in Prescott and is a good place to farm.
thanks,
Farmerjo

Hi farmerJo - 45 acres of "farm" land is hard to find in the Prescott area. Chino Valley used to be primarily agricultural, but such is not the case anymore. If you are talking pasture ground for a few alpacas/cattle, then that's slightly easier to find, although very rare to find such a large parcel. There used to be some very large ranches in the area, but most have been subdivided into smaller (2, 5, 10, 18 acre) parcels.

The prices on the few larger parcels of around 40 acres will range from $25,000-$100,000 in the Juniperwoods/Ash Fork area. The only problem there is that there is no electricity and water is scarce. Generally people out there have solar power and haul water. The larger parcels in the Williamson Valley area, especially Long Meadow Ranch, Crossroads Ranch, and Las Vegas Ranch are running from about $350,000 on up to $800,000+ for 38 acres+. This is a beautiful area with some nice grassland.

There are hardly any places around where one could actually farm (as in plant corn, milo, etc). There was Young's Farm in Dewey, which has been sold and will not remain a farm, and there are a handful of farms in the Chino Valley area, but I'm not aware of any farms/farmland for sale that has irrigation rights.

I just got back from a business trip there. It is REALLY, REALLY bad, in regards to job outlook.

I spoke to prominent business people in Prescott and PV and they ALL state the same, the job situation in the tri-city is in bad shape and poised to only get worse. Pay rates are dropping (due to the economy), open positions are very rare, the unemployment rate is climbing. Not good.

I was really shocked to see and hear how bad it was. I know it is bad everywhere but small-medium sized towns like Prescott and PV are hurting more due to the lack of availability of good paying jobs. This has always been a problem for Prescott and PV, even in economic "good times", but now it is headed for disaster because of these economic bad times.

Many businesses are in a hiring freeze. The few remaining open jobs are low paying ($7 a hour) and involve medium to hard labor.

Unless you are financially well off, moving to a small town like Prescott, PV or CV is NOT a wise move right now.

I decided to look up some information in Prescott since I applied for a job in the media/broadcasting field in Prescott.

I'm a simple, easy to get along with, pretty low key. single guy with a quite Beagle dog, kinda guy.. don't own a house or property and dont plan to...my job would pay decently, so I think *IF* I got the job, I'd do fine.

(Just sent in my stuff last night, so I really have no idea if they even think I'm qualified enough!)

I live about 1 mile North/West of downtown Ord.

I'll post on here if I ever hear anything back about the job! (So frequently, in broadcasting, they don't even bother to acknowledge they even got your stuff.. I AM NOT SAYING this place does that, but it's happened... )

Ord is a neat little town. I love all the historic homes there.

Hopefully you'll hear something back on your resume. I hate it when they leave you hanging.

It's simple. Each and every time there is a major accident in Prescott, they transport the injured to Phoenix. Why you ask? Since there are TWO hospitals, one in Prescott & PV., why can't they handle it? The answer is that THEY CANNOT handle major trauma, they don't have the skills, equipment or doctors to deal with it. Just read the articles and it will always state, they were flown to John C. Lincoln in Phoenix. Why would they fly 90 miles in a helicopter when 5 miles away there is a hospital. It's because Prescott medical care stinks.

Need a cardiologist, well get into your car and drive 90 miles to Phoenix, as that is the only place where you can find one and that will do heart surgeries.

Also, when I wanted to get a family doctor. Everyone I called stated they are NOT accepting new patients in Prescott. The one that would, stated the wait for an appointment is 5 months.

Welcome to Prescott...
I have to agree prescott Medical Care Stinks. You are not the only one that feels this way. After becoming sick I was actually rejected from their hospital, and told not to come there. Is this not an emergency room? I was physically abused at the hands of a nurse when I was very vulnerable and sick. They broke my patient privacy rights. And this is all toned down so it won't be cut from the thread. The reason I am saying this is I want people to know what they are getting themselves into moving here. I love the town it is very beautiful, but after nearly dying at the hands of the hospital I will be moving. If you do not need medical care the town is perfect. When I first moved here I had no problem. Until years later when I became very ill. I am happy to say I have since gone to Phoenix and got appropriate medical care, and an appropriate diagnoses. I will have to move so I can get appropriate treatment, which this town has proven to me is unable to provide.

For what it's worth, I never heard anything back from the radio station.. not even a "Thank you got your stuff" or "The position has been filled"
