Very interesting observation. I must be hitting Payson at all the wrong times, because I've always been stuck in traffic going through Payson and all the way to Strawberry/Pine if I'm headed north, or else until I hit the new 4-line toward Christopher Creek. Considering that Payson is only about 1/5th the size of Prescott/Prescott Valley, I've always been surprised at all the traffic over there. Of course, most of Payson's traffic is people travelling through to other destinations. Prescott's traffic is local.
It's so funny, because people read these forums and then come for a visit. Probably the number one comment I hear is: "I thought traffic was supposed to bad. This is nothing compared to where I'm from." (And that could be almost anywhere.)
The other observation re comments about how bad the traffic is usually come from people who come up to Prescott once or twice a year during some event, like the rodeo and parade. Is the traffic bad then? Absolutely! That's why I leave town at those times.
PS I promised myself I wouldn't respond to LBear's (aka Marcus) comments, but sometimes they're just so far out there I can't help myself.
Side note to LBear - I didn't realize that if you were kicked off the forum you could just grab a new user name and start over.

I am not sure who or what LBEAR is but you must have me confused with someone else. Just because someone disagrees with your point of view does not make them a hater or anything like that.
My views and opinions are actually the same views and opinions that thousands of Prescott residents have also. Read the newspapers, read the commentaries, many people believe in the same way I do.
You have Realtors and former Realtors promoting Prescott as if it was heaven on earth. I would say that they are bias in their views. Read the paper, listen to residents, they have issues with Prescott like the ones I described.

If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck . . .
Marcus, I truly do hope that you're not LBear because that poster had a personal vendetta and an ax to grind, and his methods involved intimidation and name calling on the Forum. (Thus the reason for his being banned from the forum.) LBear didn't currently live in Prescott. (I believe you mentioned you do not currently live here, either.) He had, in fact, lived in a number of locations throughout the US and hated all of them. And every time a poster asked for opinions on Prescott, LBear felt that only his opinions (in the form of dogmatic tyrades) were valid, and he launched into personal attacks on those that disagreed with him.
If you have read my recent posts on the Prescott forum, you know that none of them promote Prescott as "heaven on earth". While there are many things to like about Prescott, everyone will have their own perspective and opinion, and I have highlighted things I don't like as well as things I do like. Where a person has lived in the past will also determine their perspective. I used to live in a rural community in the midwest, so my perception about the traffic and the weather are relevant to where I moved from. Someone moving from NYC or Hawaii might have a whole other take on things here.
I encourage people to come for a nice long visit and talk to the locals so that they can form their own opinions and decide for themselves whether or not Prescott is a good fit for them.
I do hope, Marcus, that you are not LBear, and that you will use the forum to voice your opinions, while allowing others to voice theirs. And I hope, too, that rather than getting a thread off-topic (as LBear used to do) that you will respond to the original post and use your comments to address their concerns.
Certainly, City-Data forum allows for all points of view, and if used in that way, to express honest opinions, it can be a fun and informative tool for people to use in evaluating a community. Obviously, though, folks need to recognize that the comments here are nothing more than opinions, and they need to use lots of other sources, too, in evaluating any location. And nothing can replace a lengthy visit and checking things out for oneself.

At a food bank out in Chino Valley we had a Mexican lady come up for her free food and then she complained, in Spanish because she could not speak English, that she couldn't read the labels on the food and we should write down all the contents in Spanish for her! On her FREE food box! This annoys me.
And I do know that your numbers (statistics) are way off, however...WAY off.
MY problem with your post was your choice of words...lazy, fat rednecks? Please. That isn't sarcasm, that's name-calling. You are obviously a very bitter and disenchanted person who dislikes the Prescott area...so leave. You have a right to your opinion but not to abusive terms. And why is it wrong to have a higher percentage of Caucasians in a town in the first place? Why does this make the town bad? If a person wants more diversity then he or she should choose a different area. Give it up! Crikey!!!

I have no problem with people of any race/ethnicity--------------provided they have Middle Class values. I hold PW Trash in the same category as ignorant Blacks and barrio class 'Hispanics' (remember that a Hispanic can be of any race).
As I have opined on another thread or three: I like Prescott aside from expensive housing and winters a bit too cold for me (but 8-9 months out of the year the weather is to die for )

I call BS on that:
I had a couple of job offers there in which I would make between $12-$20 an hour. Then again: I made quite a bit of $$$ even in 'low wage' Mohave Valley.
Apparently; sober auto alignment technicians are/were thin on the ground.
Why I did not move to Prescott was due to having a potential roommate who does not drive (no public transportation in Prescott back then) hence limiting where I could live.

I would like to come to Chino Valley to visit and check out the rentals mostly for one or two bedroom apartments. I prefer Senior Low Cost Housing if I can find it. I live in one now but I don't like the state or the town. I do love my apartment tho! I pay $380 for a two bedroom senior low income housing complex. It has a washer and dryer, AC. living room, dining room, kitchen, one bathroom. It has a community room across the way with a gyn, dinning room, living room, two computers, BBQ behind the community room for the tenants to use. Coffee hour every Wed., potluck every third Thursday. Did I mention a big screen TV in the living room??
The tenants can come into the community room anytime they want to enjoy all this. If you want to do a family event you have to reserve the community room so there will not be more then one event at a time using it.

Hi Evelyn;
There are a couple of apartment complexes in Chino and some duplexes, etc, but I honestly don't know what they run price-wise. I know it will be less than up in Prescott. I doubt you will find community rooms, etc, though...not in Chino.
I am 62, retired (female) , and would be happy to show you around if you get out here
