Thinking of relocating to Prescott Valley
I'm thinking of possibly moving to PV to be near my grown daughter. I am currently working at starting up my own catering business and I also make wedding cakes and specialty European chocolates! I was wondering if anyone would know if there would be any market for this type of business in PV. I'd appreciate any information.

There is always a market if you can provide a top-quality service, but you better have a lot of advertising money and a lot reserves to hold you through the lean start-up times.

If you are asking such questions, then I would be safe to say that you should reconsider going into such a business, especially with today's economy and the specialized market you are looking on entering. I don't think asking a forum such as this if they think a catering business making cakes and chocolates is good market analysis.
I am not trying to be a smarty pants but being a business man myself, I would advise you that you should NOT consider such a move and venture. There is not enough weddings in this area to even sustain such a venture. Not to mention the dozen or so other reasons why such a business would not do well in this area.
Remember, over 50% of small businesses fail the 1st year. That is a fact. Are willing to move 1,000+ miles, relocate into a new area, tapping into a market niche that is very obscure, in today's economy, risking bankruptcy, risking losing a lot or all of your money, etc?
Without naming names, let me tell you this, there are currently some businesses that might go bankrupt this year. I am talking big name, big dollar businesses that many would be shocked to see go under, but they are hurting and hurting bad.

I would also add that stores like Basha's, which was well grounded and had a good client base for many years, is shutting it's doors. They are going bye-bye up here in Prescott.
If I were you, I would not do it. You can move here if you have enough cash reserves to live off of for a couple of years. I would not get into such a business venture. Your odds are better at Bucky's Casino playing Black Jack.

I would also add that stores like a 54,000 square foot Hobby Lobby are moving to the area. There is also a new Fuddruckers opening soon. Prudential Overall Supply is building a new 15,000 square foot facility, and the Prescott Valley hospital is building a brand new state-of-the-art birthing center. There are direct flights to Los Angeles, Ontario, and Denver will be coming soon. The area has some of the best weather in the country and there are no earthquakes, tornados, or hurricanes. But then, I am more of a glass-is-half-full kind of person. Oops, I forgot to mention that CVS is also nearly finished with their new building in Prescott Valley. Of course McDonalds, Burger King, and Taco Bell have all recently renovated their buildings.

I would also like to add that realtors/real estate agents are partly to blame for our economic collapse. Along with the mortgage brokers and banks, realtors with their corruption and greed made this economic disaster possible. The blood is on their hands.

I would also add that there are many people on these forums whose main purpose in life is to play the role of naysayer. They have a "chicken little/the sky-is-falling" complex. They add nothing positive to the overall nature of any conversation. They are quickly recognized by their doomsday doom & gloom rhetoric. They declare that "the end is near"; they prophesy that "the world is coming to an end", and "prepare to meet thy maker" is their daily greeting!
I say to you: "Pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain". He is but a frustrated ne'er-do-well who needs to broadcast his personal pain and suffering to those of us who are doing well and enjoying life. These ones will eventually fade away into a second-class, painful existence which they brought upon themselves.
Bid them farewell, and continue to be the hard-working, optimistic and positive people that you've always been! We now now return control of this forum back to you...

Realtors are to blame with the economic collapse? You got to be kidding me? How so? Realtors with corruption and greed?
Real estate has always been supply and demand. It is what a buyer is willing to pay. It always has been.
Dell Nec, what business do you own in Prescott?

It's really none of your beeswax. All kidding aside, it involves tourism, which is down. It looks like I will have to lay-off about 5 employees.
On the other note, if you haven't grasped the fact that Realtors were part of the equation of this collapse, you need to study-up and get in touch. Realtors, appraisers and brokers all worked hand in hand to manipulate prices and lied. That is a fact.
