Yavapai hospital system is a smaller not-for-profit outfit that just is being slammed by the influx of people with higher medical needs. The big guess is that Banner Health will buy them out eventually after Banner or some other big outfit gets their foot in the door here. Then the community will have lost what was previously a decent smaller hospital system that wasn't in it exclusively to make a buck. I think all hospital systems are suffering to a degree due to federal legislation that is outside of their control.

In the future, maybe 5-10 years out, people who have been here awhile might have fond memories of the Yavapai hospital system when it is gone.

Too bad you have had bad experiences with them. We have had a few experience with them and they were great. As was Verde Valley over the hill. We try to avoid Phoenix unless it is necessary for a certain specialty. Too impersonal in Phoenix.

Is it then impossible to find a Primary Care or Internal Medicine doctor in the area? Where I am now, I am having to look for another doc. So much for " you can keep your doctor" . :-(

I was able to find an "in network" (UHC) PCP doctor accepting new patients in Prescott in early 2016, there were several available at that time and my main task was weeding through their bios to decide which one I wanted to go with. All the choices seemed to be nearing retirement age tho (60+), so we'll see how long before I need to find another one.

I might have mentioned this before but when I was searching for an allergy/asthma specialist in Prescott, there were only two.

One was over 90.

I think it's wise to get your ducks in a row ahead of time, medically. And not to be a bummer, but wherever you choose to move to, you might want to discreetly check into the availability of hospice services.

Be reminded that Prescott is sort off the beaten track from I-17; I-40 and is not a megapolis. They're trying to provide as much as they can to us retirees although imperfect. If one has such a large case of medical needs then Prescott might not be their place. Same with Sedona, Cottonwood, PV, Chino Valley....Flagstaff!!

cheers..
