It seems anytime anyone asks an innocent question about Prescott by the end of the posts that's all it is, political rants and insults. I am thanking goodness my perception of Prescott is not based only on this board but through a variety of contacts etc. We will be arriving in Prescott next year once we buy a home and I am so excited.

That all starts when people move here or anywhere for that matter and then start complaining about the area and those who live there. One poster likes to complain about their neighbor having a big truck, a gun rack and flies the Confederate flag. Just guessing, but I'll bet the individual with the big truck was living there before them? Some people have freaked out at the site of someone openly carrying a handgun in public. Others have complained about slow moving trucks pulling horse trailers on winding roads. Same for RV's of which there are a lot of. All non issues as far as I'm concerned. A lot of people, myself included packed up and moved because they couldn't stand where they were living. We certainly do not want the place we've moved to becoming the place we've just left.

Politics plays are a large part as decisions that are made by politicians even at the local level will affect your standard of living. Especially with regards to taxes and the overall cost of living. The more the government takes, the more the average person has to struggle. Then there's all of those innocuous little laws that don't solve anything except to encroach upon your personal freedoms. They call that a "Nanny State".

At least the way I see it is that if you are a Liberal moving to a predominantly Conservative area you'll find that there will be a lot of things to complain about. Just as we did as Conservatives living in New York.

Unfortunately we live in a deeply divided country. One side wants to live their lives the way they see fit. The other side wants to dictate how you should live your life the way they see fit. Obviously there will be animosity between the two sides. It's hard to find any neutral ground there.

At least from my perspective it is important to move to an area that best suits your lifestyle, standard of living and indeed political beliefs. It's a lot more than beautiful scenery and great weather of which this area has an abundance of.

At any rate I do wish you luck and am happy to hear you're excited about moving here. It sounds like you've done your homework and have chosen the right place. Just as we did and couldn't be any happier.

You're absolutely right.....We moved to Prescott in 1992 after I retired from the Navy and it was a wonderful place to live. People were very friendly and politics were a non-issue. My how times have changed.
