Prescott deemed ‘Best Value Town in Southwest’

Prescott has been named the No. 1 Best Value Town in the Southwest by Sunset Magazine, as part of an article about Top 20 Best Value Towns, according to a news release.

“The article cited Prescott’s quality of life, emphasizing outdoor amenities including trails and lakes, and the Old West heritage, citing the Palace and Whiskey Row,” the release stated.

Prescott City Manager Michael Lamar said he is pleased that Prescott is earning positive recognition. “It’s easy to see why Prescott is being recognized in so many ways,” he said. “There is so much opportunity including heritage, arts, culture, outdoor recreation, and a variety of educational opportunities. We believe that Prescott is on the rise, and recognition like this confirms it.”

Recently Expedia Viewfinder named Prescott’s downtown one of the Coolest Downtowns In North America, and a Top Destination for nature lovers.

It's too expensive to be a good value? But the central city is pretty cool IMO, save for the retirees.

Apparently that article wasn't written on a weekend when trying to take a left on highway 69 without benefit of a stoplight.

The weather is awesome. The bugs are minimal. The people are friendly too.

The hits just keep on coming...

And just some anecdotal evidence of what is happening to non-retire crowd here-

My wife and I are in the process of leaving.
Good friend of ours in a very needed field up here is leaving.
Other friends of ours are saying Prescott is getting too big and wishing they could leave.
A wife's former coworker bailed for Payson.

Far from scientific, but there is some decent evidence that the younger crowd is being pushed out by the old.
