I have lived in or near a major city, Los Angeles, for over 20 years, and I'm telling you your comparison is erroneous. Despite the changes to your "Mayberry" as you call it, it is still nothing close to urban life in a major city. I understand it's not the same little slice of heaven that it was some time ago--things change and you have made it clear time and again that you're bitter about the changes. But those changes do not equate to urban life.

Rather than rhetoric and random news stories out of one subjective paper or another, I think if you pulled meaningful statistics to support your claim of Prescott/PV/CV being as bad as major cities then your point would have more credence.

Real statistics from the proper agencies.

To those who say Prescott does not have a drug problem. Well, the police released documents and stats showing that drug use by teens in Prescott has skyrocketed. One drug arrest per week in the Prescott school.

People need to stop pretending everything is OK and we don't have a drug problem here. They are contributing to the problem by being ignorant.

Student drug arrests top 1 per week in Prescott - The Prescott Daily Courier - Prescott, Arizona

So now we're ignorant because we don't agree with your opinion that the tri-city area is in the crapper? Then you pull out yet another article from the Daily Disappointment?

Of course there are issues and problems in the community. There always will be--I'm sure there was "back in the day" too. It doesn't make this area "as bad as a major city". Being overly alarmist is not the opposite of being ignorant, it's just the other side of the coin, with more realistic, balanced perspectives being in the middle. Extreme pessimism is just as destructive as ignorance.

Do you feel that Prescott is the only area that people do drugs? I have a friend who lives in Ukiah, CA, Mendicino County, and it has a huge drug and homeless problem.

Of course not. The problem with Prescott is that the ratio of drug use is very high when compared to the population.

Meth is out of control here. But residents don't want to admit to the problem, so they deny, mask, and turn the other way. Thereby making the problem worse. Anytime there is a problem, addressing it head on is the only way to attack it. Putting your head in the sand only makes the problem worse.

Certainly the way to fix the problem is to make the area seem so undesirable that everyone leaves or passes it by because of all these "huge" issues.

Fortunately there are a lot of good things about the area as well but let's not talk about those.
