Here's my take on immigration. illegals, UDA's and whatever else you want to refer to them as. Suprisingly I actually would like to see illegal crossing come to a complete stop myself. As a matter of fact my wife and I would often report them as we observed them near I-10 after returning from Tucson, then near Benson and right in front of my place in Tombstone. As one of the Marshal's eluded to me; that by the time their that far inland they almost want to be caught because their exhuasted or dehydrated. Yes, I saw first hand the remanants they leave etc. I don't claim to have the answer otherwise I'd be rich, but my thought is we do know they primarily make their attempts to come over because of jobs and money. Then I'm thinking if our government enacted laws across the states that all employers that knowingly hire illegals be charged with a felony and if their is such a law then it needs to seriously enforced. Which isn't being done. That goes for Stores, Ranchers, Growers, Contractors and Restuarants or anywhere there employed. Maybe that would intice them to stay in Mexico and work the very Companies we have set up over their in Mexico. Just stop the hiring of "illegals" here!! And in addition; I know we have a best interest in trade with Mexico, but because this issue is so out of hand. I can't see why our government can't put pressure on Mexico's government in some regard for Mexico to be given ultimatums. I have to tell you this whole illegal immigration issue just aggravates me to no end. One; I was born and raised in this country as well as my parents. However; I am mexican-american, french, and yaque indian. I grew up in the country and foothills, not the city. I have grandparents buried in a little country cemetary dating back to 1869. But what in infuriates me is that at first glance ignorant people have that tendancy to quicly pass judgement on me and want to put me into the catagory of oh theirs anothe mexican. Or at least until they hear me speak. Number one; I don't dress as they do, my complexion is evident. I happen to have served "our"country. I am a Viet Nam Combat Vet, Bronze Star, wounded, 22 years of combined Army Active, Reserve and National Guard service. So I quess my beef is until we can get a handle on this immigration issue. I hope those that are on the left or on the right understand that we as mexican americans do not deserve to be looked at or put in that catogaory of illegals. It would really be nice for people stop judging at first glance. Try and be a little conscientious about who's who.

You are so right...they are ignorant people, and there is little excuse for that. I had a poster challenge me once, saying he bet I could not tell a legal from an illegal Mexican, which amused me and made me think a bit. The thing is...I am Irish/Manx/German by blood but there are several members of my family who are married to wonderful folks of Mexican and NA heritage...all are citizens who have been here for generations, well educated, hard workers and very good people. I would never see them on the street and assume they were "illegals".

However, when I drive into town on a morning and see dozens of Mexican men standing on the corner, unshaven, unbathed, speaking only Spanish and looking for day work from some contractor or quarry owner, I do assume they are illegals. I also assume it when I see them on Friday afternoons at the local grocery, paying for their traditional Mexican foods and beer with wads of cash, while still unbathed, unshaven and speaking only Spanish. I suppose that makes me judgemental but it's very hard not to assume in those instances. I bet if I saw you on the street or in a grocery I would not for one moment assume you to be an illegal, though...eh?

I thank you for your very last comment. And I do agree about your comment made when driving by in the morning and seeing them with unattended upkeep. My follow up comment would be where's Immigration/Border Patrol? There are so many places where they tend to gather and yet immigration isn't sent to check them out? I don't understand it.

I spoke with a gardener once at an apartment complex who was illegal. I asked him how long since he had been "home" to Mexico. He said he regularly went home once a month. I asked how he could do that and make it back in, and he just laughed. He said, "I just walk across the highway. Easy." The "Fence" along Highway 8 in AZ near Yuma looks like a PVC pipe barrier you'd find on a playground. I'd put the pic here but i can't figure out how to get it on here from my cell phone. Right now the Border is a sieve. And, with all the tunnels UNDER the border, people are just driving across. Some of the Border tunnels are wide enough for two humvees.

In Yavapai County, ICE is very busy collecting illegals, but our law enforcement is so swamped with other duties that unless they catch the illegals in a criminal offense they simply do not have the staff and time to corral all of them up. The same with ICE...they do not have the manpower and funding to patrol all the towns scoping out illegals...they react when one of the law enforcement agencies catches illegals involved in crime. It is much better than it was a few years ago, but it still has a long ways to go. This is true all over AZ, I think.

I wrote a long drawn message then lost it. So I'll try and keep this short and to the point hoping not to come across abrubt. #1. I still say employers across the country are quilty of hiring them and should be faced with a stiff criminal offense for doing so because we all complain about the immigration problem but it seems like to me that the employers are just as at fault. However; this particular subject matter seems to get avoided as far as admitting that it is one of the major problems and contributes to it. And are we afraid of what it just might do to our local economy and as a result the devastiating impact it could have across the country if it was actually enforced? #2. As far as not having enough enforcement to handle the volume of illegals in which to seek out and detain. They blaintly gather in bunches or small groups because they can't speak english so they tend to feel safer in and amongist their comfort zone to help each other while together as well as some are family members. I was instructed by a Border Patrol agent that they actually apprreciate any help we can pass on to them. There protocal to my wife and I was to observe, if we have a strong suspicsion they maybe illegal then we have the option to call either local law enforcement and they'll contact BP with the details you provide them. Law enforcement can detain them till such time BP arrives. Believe me I have followed this protocal and it has worked. We actually saved a illegal off I-10 by calling in just in time because it was just a matter of time before he may have died from hydration the BP said. So my point being; why could'nt small volunteer groups be formed ("non vilgiante") to volunteer time to help our immigration agencies? Especially if we want to make such an impact on illegals and help contribute to our saviour of our country. Again; I say take away what is most important to them and all the reason they come her and just maybe the rest of mexico will get the word by hear say and then it would be interesting to just how much of an impact this has on the slow down. Hey they have their own show to run over there! They have OUR products over their that have been exported from us to them to built. Besides were in a recession, I'd think they would be running back over their in quick time since everyone is loosing their jobs here. Oh well, What do I know. He! he!

You are right!
Take away the source (jobs)... make it a felony to hire
an illegal that does not show positive proof that they
are allowed to be here. Our country has a seasonal work
program already in place, that grants nearly 5 million work
permits per year. We should have a nationwide government
issued photo Id to go along with the papers.
NO photo Id... NO WORK!
Many folks think they all sneak over JUST to work... wrong!
Thousands & thousands of them know how to really work our
system, hey they have been doing it for years... a free ride at
American tax payers expense. Our American children are going
without, due to the fact that schools are cutting after school programs
so they can pay for the influx of south-of-the-border special needs...
but by the time most of them reach highschool, they are gangbanging,
pregnant, drop-outs, or continue to go just for the free lunch and a place
to hang out.. and our American kids have to suffer for it. There is not
a day that goes by that an illegal from mexico does not get arrested for either
driving drunk, driving with no license/insurance, transporting drugs,
transporting a truckload of other illegals, robbery, and so-on... here in
Indiana. We now have nearly 1 million illegals, and it keeps climbing.
The illegal births in Indiana is staggering.. along with the medical costs.
Two of our friends have had to sell thier homes due to the decline of
thier neighborhood. I don't get it... 5 years ago you could drive thru and see a
nice clean, no junk, no trash neighborhood..until the mexicans moved in.
yeh I know.. not all are like that.. but many & most are, I'm not blind.. lol!
I know of one home.. for a fact, had 13 illegals living in it. A tiny 2 bed one bath
home. They finally busted them after one of them came home with a deer and
strung it up in the back yard and gutted it! I'm sorry if I am venting.. but our
country is in a mess, we can't help our own, we can't give our own kids good
schools.. so parents are fighting to search for one. Our government
needs to STOP.. and they need to START taking care of our own!
it's not just costing us billions in tax dollars.. it's also costing us our way
of life, and your American childrens future...
Push 1, for spanish... push 2, for English!
cinko de mayo... didn't we use have something on the 4th of July?

just my opinion...
