PV has really good PR (public relations) and DC (damage control) when it comes to these issues. You see, bad news (crime, drugs, etc.) does not bring good business $$$. All the controlling entities in Prescott & PV, would not have the money and power they have today, if not for the real estate boom they experienced.

So, you have to dig & search The Truth Prescott Valley, AZ for TRUTH. As the newspapers (controlled by the politics) do not report the complete and accurate happenings. It's all about image and selling that image. PV is known (in inner circles) as being the black sheep of the family of Prescott. While Prescott is the high-end, Beverly-Hills & Sun-City wannabee, PV & CV is known for being the area where all the work force drives from to go to work in Prescott.

Stand at the entrance/exit of the Ranch at Prescott or Yavapai Hills, how many people will you see going to work? Now, stand on Hgy 69 in PV going into Prescott or Hgy 89 going from CV into Prescott. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Anyway, news about crime does NOT sell and does NOT do good. Case in point, I know of police department supervisors who will give a direct order to their patrol officers to NEVER give out information about criminal activities to citizens or the news media, UNLESS authorized by the watch commander. Yet, some officers will and if and when you talk to them, they will state that they need MORE training and MORE resources and MORE help in fighting the crimes taking place in PV, CV & Prescott. Some have even asked for Phoenix to send officers to help them train PV officers about gangs. As PV is seeing more gang violence.
Pettrix, I'm not going to disagree with your post in general. The gang and drug problems are increasing around the nation, and I think ALL police officers would like more tools to deal with the problem. PV is no exception.

I have seen the publication you referred to in your post. I noted a number of inaccuracies in it, too. So I guess it's just like everthing else. If anyone is thinking of moving to the area, they need to read as many sources as they can, talk to as many residents as they can, and spend time visiting the area. Then they can make an educated decision about the area for themselves.

The issue at hand is that REALTORS should not be an accurate source of information for any given area. This is the truth about the area:

CONS:

1 - If you want a good paying job, DON'T MOVE HERE. Read the DOZENS of posts stating on how hard it is to make a living here. $8.00 - $10.00 a hour is about the max.

2 - If you want diversity, DON'T MOVE HERE. Read the stats, only a handful or blacks, Asians and other ethnic races. The Hispanic population is the only largest ethnic population.

3 - If you want services, DON'T MOVE HERE. Good luck getting a call back from a plumber, electrician or any other service. Compared to Phoenix, Prescott doesn't have the same competitive services.

4 - If you want a good hospital, DON'T MOVE HERE. Yes, they have Yavapai Regional BUT then why do they fly you out to Phoenix in emergencies?? Simple answer, Prescott does not have the capabilities that Phoenix has. Need a cardiologist to perform a heart surgery? Well, no luck in Prescott, get in your car and drive 90 minutes to Phoenix for that.

5 - If you want good quality low-priced housing, DON'T MOVE HERE. Prescotts median is $610,000. Sure PV has cheaper housing but your new home might have been built by the builder who just filed bankruptcy and is not honoring any warranty issues. Even then, $310K in PV does not get you much. A small lot and a home under 2,000 sq.ft.

6 - If you want good shopping, DON'T MOVE HERE. All you have is the Gateway Mall (which was protested and sued by many residents to prevent them from building). PV is trying to build a mall this year but they are getting sued also. Compared to cities like Phoenix, Prescott is a joke when it comes to shopping choices.

7 -If you want progress, DON'T MOVE HERE. As I have shown in my other articles, this area is notorious for business owners getting sued by the anti-growth people.

I can go on and on....

Now, if you want the PROS:

1 - Decent weather. We have a 2-3 season climate. Winters can drop into the single digits at night.

2 - Nice mountain views. Good hiking and nice areas to explore.

Actually REALTORS should be accurate in the information they provide. And if we give a personal opinion we should not deliver that as a "fact". A good real estate agent should provide their clients with ACCURATE sources for the information they seek.

Obviously opinions are going to vary depending on a person's perspective. (You hate Prescott; I love Prescott) That's why it's so important that people visit an area and research reliable sources to get the facts, and then they can make their OWN decision about an area. They shouldn't make a decision based on someone else's biased opinion.

Gretchen B - Are you a Realtor???

It is not a matter of "hate" but a matter of telling the truth. If my opinion is "biased", then what is yours?
