I am going to retire..me and my arthritis to the Prescott area.
Can someone please tell me the difference in altitute, climate and services in Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley?
Also, is the cost of living different for rentals.

Prescott is about 500 feet higher in altitude and so has a few degrees cooler weather. It is more wooded, it has a lot of quaintness to it, and offers most any services needed. It is a really beautiful town but real estate prices reflect that and for many it is just too expensive to live there.

Chino is much smaller, is mainly grazing land and junipers and grasslands, but the town has every necessity: Safeway, Walgreens, McDonalds, Dominos, other cafes and restaurants, medical center, nurseries, etc, but no "extras"...gotta drive to PV for a movie theater or a mall. Most of the housing in Chino is on acres or more, although there are a few developments now with smaller lot sizes. Housing is less expensive. It is more rural, lots of horses out in Chino. Quieter lifestyle.

The folks in Chino Valley are nicer than the ones in Prescott, in my opinion.

But it's expensive to live here really. For a small town, it's really too expensive, I think.

But since you're a retiree, it will be perfect for you (any of these little towns here on this side of Arizona. Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Paulden, Dewey, Humbolt, Mayer, and Cordes Junction). This side of Arizona was built for the retirees. It's not for the younger folks, really. That's why there's not that much to do here. Just hiking trails (those are awesome, but who the hell has time to hike everyday and all day long?!), bars (bars outnumber most stores here), bunch of stores, nursing homes, and fast food joints (I think there's only 2 health food stores or something).

This side of Arizona will be perfect for you...Enjoy...But I'm going to Florida next year, thank God!!

Holy god, every post you make Lina is filled with how much you don't like the area. Rather than simply answering a question you have to fill it up with all the reasons you're not happy in Prescott--which seriously has no relevance to the question.

Such a downer.

So one has to be 100% positive, all the time?

Is she not entitled to FREE SPEECH unless it agrees with your view?

You missed the point, DellNec--but since you are the other harbinger of doom in this forum, that's not surprising.

Maybe if you think about it you'll get the message, too.

smilinpretty has a spectacular aura aboutsmilinpretty has a spectacular aura aboutsmilinpretty has a spectacular aura aboutsmilinpretty has a spectacular aura aboutsmilinpretty has a spectacular aura about
Since traveling the summer, being in the following states: Indiana, Ohio, and TN, I came back home and I am so happy to be home.. My neighbor called me today and commented how her and her husband have seen us out on our back patio everynight. I explained to her that it feels so good to sit outside and not have gnats, no see ums, mosquitos dive down on you. Also, the humidity back in those states was something awful. In Ohio, Along the Ohio River, just standing outside my clothes were drenched with perspiration. I got into some poison ivy and it was awful. It seemed to be hiding out in allot of places.

In my opinion, there are trade offs for green. We stayed at a resort area in TN called, Fairfield Glade. I talked to two men who told me they are millionares. Another man drove a beautiful Lexus, told me it was up for sale, every year he puchases a new one. Both these men lived in $350K houses. Property tax is $300 per $100K. Home insurance is $550. Car registration on a 4 year old vehicle is $32 a year. Granite, cost of living there was much less than here but I would rather live here and pay the added price.
In my case, the grass was not greener on the other side. I love living here and there is no place like home. I love living in Chino Valley. I live in the country but in a housing development called, Quail Ridge.

Chino Valley's rentals seem to be less than Prescott and Prescott Valley. According to one poster, Chino Valley residents live here because they can't afford to live in Prescott. My husband loves the country and he would never live in Prescott due to the crowds and traffic. But, keep in mind, that is ones man opinion. We have awesome views from out back windows and front windows of the mountains. Our lot is over half acre of land.

Our dogs are happy to be home. They are not use to flies and they were infested with fleas while in TN.

Nope, give me my Chino Valley any old day!!!

You know, I do have the right to say what I think and such. I was never happy being here (I had no choice but to move here, okay. Private circumstances that I'm not telling the whole world about). I have just never been treated so bad in my life til I moved here (and I haven't even done a thing either!). Every where else I lived at people never talked about me or were mean to me and I had always had a job every where else I was at. Until I came here. There never has been a reason for people to treat me so bad since I've been here, but they do (some of them).

It's just what I've been experiencing in my 5 years living here. I never had these feelings until now, after living here awhile.

Okay, now I'm officially off the subject and you won't hear from me again...Bye!!

I am sorry to hear you feel this way. When I first moved to Chino Valley, 2005, I attended a church and tried to get involve but to be honest, I was not mentally geared to live here. I set myself up for diseaster. So, I moved away a few years later. I have come back to the area, and I plan to get involved in different organizations. I want to be part of this community, to give back.

I wish you the best.

Sure you have a right to say what you want--I just pointed out that in virtually every post you make it's all about how miserable you are and how much you want to move--even when it's irrelevant to the overall topic.

Some people feel compelled to spread their misery everywhere. That's a very unattractive personality trait, for what it's worth.

I'm sure you'll be much happier when you move and escape the horrible tri-city area. Good luck with that.
