I wonder how hard it would be for a 20-year cop somewhere else to pass a polygraph to get hired in AZ????

I am not sure what you mean?

I think most cops who are working and who have passed a polygraph...could do so again.

If you are not involved with drugs and have not used during your career, if you do not beat your wife or break the law or have sex with animals, you will pass the poly in Yavapai County. (Yes, they really ask if you have had sex with animals.)

I question Nearborn's motive as he hasn't responded but it's a good topic anyways.

Aside from the aforementioned "crimes" I think we're forgetting that the Polygraph is not only trying to create a clear picture of the candidate but also really see if they are honest. Many indiscretions can be overlooked as long as you show that you still have integrity, and have learned and moved on.......

Who am I getting if I hire a particular person.....thats what I would want to know...A 21 year old with a squeeky clean reacord doesn't really tell me how they will perform in a long and challanging (sometimes stressful) career such as Law enforcement. A 20 year veteran.....sure has probably seen a lot....made some mistakes....but where are they now, and how have they grown. I think most 20 year cops would be just fine.

Absolutely...most of the questions are asked to see how the person reacts. However...current or recent drug use or other obvious criminal activity by a 20-year law enforcement veteran would not bode well.

I have worked in several departments...one of them being a very large city. I could not concieve of an officer "doing illegal drugs" per se......Any full time police officers doing drugs...probably have other issues too and would never make it 20 years...there were many that washed out with in the first few years. I also knew many that had experiemented quite a bit in college and what and had an open mind about things like that but would never compromise their position like that....I could never imagine anyone getting hired with recent drug use......or drug use while being employed as a Police Officer.
