Schools
We just moved back to Prescott about a month ago, but I was pretty much raised here. I went to Bradshaw Mountain high school in Prescott Valley and really liked it. There are some incredible teachers there...and some not so incredible ones, but I enjoyed it.
My kids go to Washington Traditional on Gurley St. in Prescott. It's a more challenging school and I hear that 80% of the kids who attend are not in the district. Mine are, so we didn't have to wait to get in. My kids have an abundant amount of homework each night, compared with other schools they've gone to. The teachers are a bit more strict and expect more from their students. So far, my children love it! My oldest has gone to 3 schools and hated the other two. The kids are really friendly, and both of their teachers are really outstanding. Mrs. Greer for kindergarten and Mrs. Harding for second grade are great! There are two teachers per grade, which is nice. It's not so big of a school or classes. The school is the oldest working schoolhouse in AZ. And, contrary to everything we heard about Washington, they do take field trips, have art classes and music and encourage creativity. We had heard, from many people, before enrolling them, that the traditional schools don't do those things, but that's not true.
Another school that's really good, I think, is Lincoln elementary on Park St. in Prescott. We heard many parents tell us they loved it. One of the teachers at Washington told me to enroll our kids at Granite Mountain middle school, rather than Prescott Mile High middle school. She said Granite Mountain is leaps and bounds better than the latter. But it's father out. Prescott Mile High middle school is right in downtown Prescott.
Hope this info. helps.
