whats with the grasshoppers?
Hi everyone, my husband and I visited prescott and pv and chino in sept looking at homes to buy and we noticed a ton of grasshoppers everywhere, we live in sw florida and yes we are used to some bugs, but this was biblical what we saw, was this a fluke, once a year bologna, can't imagine having dogs trying to eat those and them flying in your face and hair when you are walking to your front door. is it worse in pv and chino then prescott, we have horses too. and will be buying acreage. thanks

The grasshopper plague lasted about a month and was much worse in the rural, grassland areas of CV and PV. I only saw a couple around my house, which is on the edge of one of the subdivisions and near a wash. However we don't have grassland in my area, so I think that's the key. Of course, if you're planning on horse property, then you'll probably be in one of those areas unless you go out Williamson Valley or else Dewey.
Wherever you land, rest assured it is just a temporary phenomenom, and some years are much better.

We get hoppers every year but usually nothing much...although last summer, here in my area of Chino, we had a plague! They ate everything, and I mean everything, in my yard!!! Not sure what was up with that but they seethed over everything. This year...just a few as usual

Hey, esselcue - I'm glad to see you're still "hopping" around. I've been missing your posts. I guess now that you're retired you've got lots of fun things to occupy your time.

I love the cicadas...the actual bugs. They are such a vibrant color. My terriers love them too...they eat them by the bucket full and claim they taste like chicken! Seriously...my two Jack Russells love to crunch down cicadas. The vet tells me it is a high source or protein and not to worry, but...yuck.
