I do say positive things about this area BUT I am also truthful and point out the negatives. There are some people here who have REAL ESTATE and want more and more people to move here so that they can get $$$$. I also own real estate out here BUT I am not going to lie and twist facts in order to "sucker" people to moving here so that my property increases in value.
I pointed out the pros of this area but it also has very strong cons. I don't like seeing people move here and struggle to survive because the pay is low and the housing is high. The ones making money are realtors, real estate investors, and the cattle owner families who are riding on the coat tails of their parents cattle farm land.
If you like making $9.00 a hour, paying too much for a home, having bad service, then the Prescott area is for you.

Is that Darlene's you're talking about?? I've been there. It's a great place. I think it's Darlene's.

RE: Bar in paulden
No, it's the one just north of paulden, the pinkish one, with the mechanical bull. It keep changing ownership. Right now it's a hispanic bar, but it keep going back and forth from what I hear. I heard it used to be a fun place to hang out. My mom lives in paulden. I might be there one day, I would love to open a bar & grill. Any thoughts ?

Chino Valley - Prejudice??
We are thinking of relocating to Chino Valley. From what we can see, the real estate market is great for buyers. We have visited several times and love the wide open spaces and - believe it or not - the wind. Growing up in Phoenix, I am pretty familiar with most of Arizona. We are interested in the overall mood of the community - are people friendly and open minded?? Do they treat other people (even newcomers) like they would like to be treated? I have seen some negative comments regarding immigrants (whether legal or illegal). While we are USA born and firmly believe everyone that gets a USA driver's license, social security number, etc., should be required to speak and write English fluently, prejudice is ugly.

As another poster mentioned, Chino Valley is much more rural in feel than Prescott or Prescott Valley. People who have horses love Chino Valley. It's definitely worth a look-see, especially if you're wanting to get away from the Phoenix spawl and want some cooler weather. Right now is the dry, windy time of the year up here. After the monsoons hit, it will be much prettier and more pleasant.

Operaqueen - I've always felt that Chino Valley was a very friendly town. I'm going to let Esselcue answer your question, though. Esselcue has lived in Chino Valley for a number of years and she's the one who can give you an insider's viewpoint.

Here I am!!! Hi, OperaQueen (Love your name). I've lived in Chino for 23 years (almost). It was a one-horse town when I moved there...it is a community now. It is not all flat by any means, I live up against the foothills on the north end and there is gorgeous state land by my place, lots of room to hike, ride horses, etc.
Chino is still very much a "horsey" area...many folks have horses and are into a simpler lifestyle. Most homes are on one acre parcels or more. I find it friendly and easy to live there, especially now with the big Safeway and Walgreens there, it has everything one needs. The schools are average, I guess (grandkids in the schools), there is a wonderful community center now, with a big pool and plenty of athletic fields for kids activities.
Yes, there are latinos in some areas, can't say how many are legal or not. They mainly work in the flagstone quarries north of town and they live in small clusters. Really don't see them much except on paydays (Fridays) at the Safeway. Now that ICE is working so hard at gathering up the illegals I have seen a huge drop in them in the Chino/Paulden areas.
The wind blows in the spring...April & May mostly. The rest of the year it comes and goes just like everywhere else. It's welcome in summer as it cools me down when I am out mowing my acre! Chino is a valley so probably a bit more windy that Prescott...but no worse than other valley areas, including PV.
If you like to garden Chino is amazing! Just add water! I have grown amazing veggie gardens, and I have apple and almond and peach trees that produce like gangbusters! I have Morning glories growing on my fences, and big decorative gourds which I use for birdhouses and art projects...and I have very big and shady trees which are 20+ years old that thrive. Again, just add water.
I am not in real estate, I work for the Sheriff's Office...I just think that for the money, you probably can't go wrong. NOW...to really confuse you...I am retiring in January and am planning to sell my home in Chino and leave the area. Why? you ask. Because my family lives out of state and it's time to give up the care of a piece of property and head for a different lifestyle. But if I was not in this point of my life I would never leave Chino.

Esscelcue, your garden sounds so nice and peaceful. If you have pictures, I'd love to see it. I live in Southwestern Riverside County and I wish I could move now but I guess it's not the time to sell.
