If you're looking for lush and beautiful, Chino is NOT the place. Overall, I don't care for it, but that's just one person's opinion. Again, it all depends on what you like.
I agree with your view!

Try the White Mountains or Flagstaff.

Thanks Chinodeb! I appreciated that!

Lbear...............so, so sorry I missed that minor detail that caused you such anguish that you had to comment on it. Arrogant. You are very arrogant.

I think Bell said it best. At least for my wife and I, there are more bad things here than good. For us the bad things are the wind from about March through around May, the contant dirt and dust Year around.

We have five acres and have planted about 150 trees and at least they are still alive. The fruit and apple trees sometimes bare a little fruit if there isn't a late frost that kills the blooms.
We live on a ridge and over the years, all the good soil has either been blown up to Utah or washed to the lower areas.

My wife planted a garden Three times last year after being wiped out by frost, hail and finally the wind, then the grasshoppers. We finally just gave it up.

We've spent a lot of time with soil preparation and amendments but at least I found I'm really great at growing tumbleweeds!

Another thing we don't care for is a council and zoning that never met a
project they didn't like. If the proposed Del Rio ever goes in, Hwy 89
will be impossible. Larger parcels will keep getting chopped into smaller ones with no end in sight.

And to top it off, a tax system and assessor that thinks my place is worth
30% more than what I could get in this market.

We do however really like the people here and will miss them and the small town atmosphere. For us, it's time to move on.

Hi rrowdy,

Sounds like you don't live far from my rental house in Gamble's Ridge Development..

Do not like the wind in CV but everything else is okay.

Hope you don't mind me asking but where do you plan to relocate to?

My best to you and yours,

Nameste,
Deb

Hi Chinodeb,

We've been looking at Oregon. Last year we were there looking at properties and will be making another trip this February. We're looking at the Applegate valley, Rogue River, Merlin, areas which are in the southern part of the State.
Also the Roseburg, Glide Sutherlin areas further North. We're looking at larger acreages and right now the selection is good.

I'm not sure where Gambles ridge is but we live on Reed rd. across from the State trust lands between Rd 1N & Rd 2N.

We may have to leave our place empty for a few years as nothing is selling and indications are that it will get much worse.

Rrowdy,

I was looking at Oregon also. Coeur d'Alene is an awesome place. I pretty sure that's where we're going. My boyfriend is up there working now. Nothing here for him. He's been there since last Feb. I'm making another trip up there in April to look at houses. Then I'll come back and put the house on the market here. I'm hoping for the best in selling it. I don't want to stay in Chino for another 2 years (the amount of time they say it will take for things to get better). I'm going to cut my losses and move on. I wish you the best in your search for a new home. It's a long process trying to find the place that suits you best, but it's exciting!

I totally get what happened with your garden, soil and the grasshoppers! It's crazy frustrating!!!! I can't believe how many grasshoppers we had last year. I think there's a species in every color and size. I had to give my cantalope to the chickens because by the time they were ready to pick, the grasshoppers had eaten huge holes in them! UGH!!! They even ate the marigolds I planted in there for insect control. I've never seen that before!

A friend once told me that Chino is a very harsh environment and I have to agree. That is if you love doing things outside. It can be very frustrating. There's no perfect place for sure, but for all of us there is that place that suits our individual lifestyles and personalities better than others!

Hi Mary, If you are looking for lush green, then Prescott is probably not the place for you. The vegetation is primarily chapparral and (brown) grassland in the lower elevations and pine/juniper in the higher elevations. Lush it is not. Flagstaff is going to be too cold for you. Payson is also pine forest, but there are only about 20,000 people there, so they do not have much in the way of services. Prescott is a good middle-ground as far as weather is concerned. Not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. Scottsdale is going to be 110+ degrees in the summer. Even at night the air will not cool below 90 degrees. Again, there is a desert landscape - nothing lush. You might try purchasing on a golf course. Then you at least have a lush view out your window eventhough the surrounding area will be desert landscape. The one good thing compared to FL is that there are no biting bugs! Very few anyway. You won't need mosquito repellant unless you are walking on a golf course at dusk. Also, the humidity is the opposite extreme from FL. You may find yourself needing to put on a lot of moisturizer. Cheers.
