Excuse me, I am a she and I don't know what you are talking about. I have lived in Prescott for many years and I love Prescott. While you may hate Prescott, I love it.

What I do not love is the growth and corruption that this area now represents. We have limited resources here and the people and builders keep coming and raping our land and taking our water. To the point that nature and wildlife are dying and the Verde River is drying up and now they will take water from the Chino Aquifer.

Realtors are liars, just like the National Association of Realtors, who persist in the idea that prices will return to normal and that now is the time to buy. What is normal and they always say that now is the time to buy. They are the ones who were greedy and destroyed our town with uncontrolled growth and greed. They are the ones responsible for adding to the hype and over-inflating values, which we are now entering a great depression because of their actions.

I am angry at the growth and those who promote it and allow it. The widening of Williamson Valley Road and the Chino Pipeline are two of many things that are happening because people keep moving here. Go back to where you came from. We do not want you here!

My family is Yavapai Indian. Our tribe and our ancestors have lived in Arizona for centuries and have lived here long before Prescott became known as Prescott.

We have the right as this was our land first and we lived in harmony with it. This land was stolen from us and we were persecuted and put on reservations. If I don't like the growth and people moving here, I have the right to say - get out! People like Nikki Shinn are not welcomed. If you honestly ask most Indians about how they feel about people building and raping the land, most will tell you that they hate what has been done to our land. Get out!

Tough!

We are not going anywhere.

What happened to the pre Euro indigenous people was acceptable by the standards of the era. Just that it is too late to put things back for many reasons---------one being that today's American Indians are essentially 'Anglo', culturally speaking.

Think of the Euros as a bigger, badder group of 'Indians'. Remember that all races/ethnicities suffered at the hands of others---------it is called history.

Besides; how would you face losing your Internet, car, indoor plumbing, modern medical care and your knowledge of the English language?? Methinks if you had to revert to the lifestyle of your ancestors you would be one of the first people to scream in dismay.

Final point: if the Yavapai people arrived here after other 'indigenous' people----------you would have to leave as well.

Just be very careful what you wish for.

Wow...calm down. I do not hate Prescott...I love the area. What I dislike is posts like your first one, condemning the area. Your words sound way too much like one other poster who has once been banned from the forum and then who tried coming back under another name to spout his hatred for the area. Sorry if there was a mistake made but it was a logical mistake made by several of us.

My people had nothing to do with stealing or raping your land. And there is nothing keeping you on the reservation. Education is available to everyone...I know many people with NA ancestry who are doing quite well in the world, here in this area and across other states, and are not filled with anger. They have taken advantage of what the world (white or NA) has to offer and are not held back by hatred or resentment. The only thing in life that is constant is change. Some we like, some we dislike...but things change regardless. Now take a deep breath and try to add some positive energy to the forum, if you intend to post.

We moved to Prescott a month ago and we love it here. Everyone I have come in contact with so far, has been so kind, from the cashiers to the mechanics to the doctors and nurses. It's just so pretty here, I love waking up in the morning and looking out at the tall trees, I don't mind the cold or the wind. I like it that it can be sunny outside and yet cold.

Houses are also inexpensive, well at least to us, we're from So Cal. So to be able to buy a home under $400,000 here is great. It's a small town but has all the shops we need( costco, target, safeway) and I love that everytime we go to the mall, theres not a gazillion people in there. That would be fine if it was just my husband and I but when you've got little ones... getting in and out without having to stand in long lines is a plus. When we lived in Cali, I used to have to fight traffic to get anywhere and it would take me 15 mins just to go 3 miles. Here, the traffic is not nearly as bad and everything is nearby.

I just wish the food was better, when eating out, but that's okay, it'll only make me a better chef at home

So I guess you are not making a killing on us invaders at the blackjack table and slots in YOUR casino??
Were YOUR people the first to settle in the area or was there someone else here that you killed and or ran off?

MY people were peasant farmers in Italy when YOUR people lost that battle - No one owes you squat, give it a rest.

From Wikipedia
" Yavapai believe that their people originated "in the beginning", or "many years ago", when either a tree, or a maize plant sprouted from the ground in what is now Montezuma Well, bringing the Yavapai into the world. Most archeologists agree that the Yavapai originated from Patayan groups who migrated east from the Colorado River region to become Upland Yumans, and then splitting off to become Yavapai somewhere around 1300 AD.[11]
Warfare was not uncommon in the Yavapai world, and alliances were often formed for security. Wipukepa and Kwevkepaya bands formed alliances with Western Apache bands, to attack and defend against raids by Pima and Maricopa bands from the south. Because of the greater strength had by the Pima/Maricopa, Yavapai/Apache raids were generally smaller quicker raids, followed by a retreat to avoid counter-attack. Yavapai lands were defended against Pima incursions when Pima bands would move into Yavapai lands to harvest saguaro fruits"

"We have the right as this was our land first and we lived in harmony with it."
Sure sounds like 'living in harmony" to me.

You are filled with anger and hate towards Native Americans. That is your choice. You would not say such things in front of us. The internet provides you with anonymity and internet courage.

You purposely twisted my words. I said that we lived in harmony with the land. Wars and fights are common throughout every culture and tribe. What we did not do is destroy the land. We cherished it, we honored it, we protected it, we had respect for it. I never said that all tribes live in harmony. I said we lived in harmony with the land. When we killed an animal, we used all parts of that animal, we were not reckless in our ways. We respected the land and did not destroy it.gl
