Prescott is a nice city, however I have noticed that a job market does not really exist unless you are involved in health care or teaching. If you want to work doing practically anything else here, it's impossible to find anything. And I am talking about all ranges, from being a dishwasher to working as a lawyer. Part-time and full-time jobs are both included.

Not unlike any city or town right now...jobs are tough to find all over. Why pick on Prescott?

Esselcue is right. Prescott is a small city; in GOOD times, the types of jobs are limited just as in many other cities its size all over the country.

And to run with esselcue's ball further-------------things here in the Phx area are very bad. So one can imagine how badly smaller communities are hurting.

I count my lucky stars every day that I am still working.

Amen. And I say again, amen.

And the people who have jobs in Prescott feel the same way, I expect.

Default There are NO JOBS in The Prescott Area!!!

Ok.

I have lived here over 15 years and have many, many good friends with 4 year degrees that cannot find a job at Taco Bell, Walmart or McDonalds.

Many people who were part of the rental market are now moving back in with family and leaving Prescott. It is ugly.

Property values have fallen 40% in four years from the peak.

Prescott has NO infrastructure to support any jobs (except healthcare) that pay over $10.00 (if your lucky) per hour. The real unemployment rate is more like 20%+++. People cant pay there bills.

Many of the long time businesses are closing there doors and there is a GLUT of available commercial property that will be vacant forever.

Even the schools are laying off.

Go North from Gurley on Montezuma and look on the west side of the street. Over 60% of the businesses have closed and the buildings sitting empty. Some have already been vacant for years.

Were in for a world of hurt. Towns like Prescott that didnt have the forsight to plan for change are never going to recover in this spend, spend, spend, debt ridden society.

Obama "Change You Can Believe In." yea right...

Were sunk...

Sorry-Just telling it like it is and its probably like that in many ex-boom towns like Prescott.

I have a very close friend who is a workaholic...which is beside the point...but in the last three months she has taken on three (count 'em THREE ) good jobs in the Prescott area, each she works part time...but her income is substantial. So...there ARE jobs here for those who want to wait out the storm and who are not opposed to working at something they might not normally consider.

Prescott is not sunk...no moreso than any town in this current economical crunch. It will bounce back, possibly with a new appreciation for what is important among its populus, and the current problems here are no worse than anywhere else in the country right now.

It's interesting that every extremely negative post on this forum is placed here by a brand new member. Hmmm...could they all be related?

Flip side:

When the dust settles; we will be a much better nation for at least a generation or two IMHO.

The catharsis was necessary. Many of us; including myself simply got 'snakebit'.

Prescott was NEVER a "boom town" except in terms of population. Other than more service industry employers like hotels, restaurants, stores, etc., it never got any industrial development to go with the boom in population (that really took off years ago, after the Northridge earthquake in CA) and provide a larger job base.

The schools were required by STATUTE to give layoff notices, even if funds may later be available to retain those teachers. And that happened all over the state, not just Prescott.

And don't you just love the fact that people complain about YEARS of downturn in Prescott and then badmouth a President that hasn't been in office 90 days, like it's his fault.

Turning things around, in big cities and in small ones like Prescott, will take time.

LOL, how odd. Someone merely reports the truth! and people take it personally. I wonder if this is an Arizona thing or if this happens in the other fora too.
