Poll Shows Prescott Will Suffer This Summer
As a business owner, we are on the verge of possibly laying off employees if this trend continues, this new poll shows that Prescott may have a really bad summer tourism season.
Business is down 25% for the 1st quarter 2009. Summertime is where a business like mine makes 65% of its annual income. Prescott relies on tourism as a major source of its income. Shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. The following poll is troubling:
When asked:With the summer tourism season just ahead, where will your visiting friends and family stay?
44% In my home
4% With a friend or relative
4% In a mobile home
4% In a hotel
44% They're not coming to visit this summer

Hey, I'll visit Prescott. I love the area, it's such a nice small City that serves as a good escape from Phx.
Sure is cooler than Phx too, but not too cold in the winter.
What's your line of business, and why do you rely on summer tourism so much?

A lot of businesses, especially the historic downtown area, rely on tourism for much of their income. If you took away tourism, I way safely estimate that 45% of Prescott businesses would go out of business. Not that it would happen but a significant drop in tourism can start hurting the cash flow of many businesses. If you don't have the cash reserves to make it through hard times, you can start sinking and sinking fast.
I know that many businesses in Prescott and PV are currently for sale, a significantly high number. 2009 projections show many businesses will be distressed and entering hard times. Look at the tax records, many businesses are behind in their taxes.

This is hogwash.
Obmaism. Trillions wasted on the Federal Reserves private stash at taxpayer expense.
Not ONE JOB in Prescott has been created!
Show me one???
Go North from the corner of our beloved square. Montezuma and Gurley. Count the empty buildings where no one can make it work.
6 out of 9 buildings shuttered.
It is sad that our leaders have sold us out....
America is Dying.

You are 100% correct! I am a business owner in Prescott and we are hurting. I am in contact with many business owners and they relate the same thing to me. Profits are down 30% for the 1st quarter compared to 2008. If things continue this way, employee layoffs will start, along with salary cuts.

The strong will survive in this economic situation.
Obama has nothing to do with this economic disaster, it was brewing for the last 15 years and it has now over-filled and Obama is mopping up the mess. Profits are down not because of Obama, but people are not spending money that they really don't have. Those businesses and people who are economically strong, are spending because they are in a position to do so. Those businesses that were barely making it, over extended are going under. Only the fittest will survive. Kinda like Monopoloy, those who win are the ones that have the most money.
Obama will go down in history as being one of the best President's of the United States. Just remember this. If I am still alive, I will be around to remind you in four more years.

It took years to get the economy this way, and we now have whiners complaining that it's not fixed in 100 days in good old Prescott and elsewhere. What would McCain (McBush) and the dingbat have done?
A bit of patience is needed here. It's bad to varying degrees all over, and Prescott is better off than a lot of places in the country.
