Default Gardening in Prescott, Dewey, Chino Valley

Just curious if anyone has a nice garden for vegetables and fruit. It is very hard to tell w/ pictures over the internet, but it looks pretty barren in most areas. I would imagine the soil is not the greatest for growing??
It also appears that irrigation might be a challenge. Can anyone with a green thumb speak to this? Are there areas where the soil is better?
TIA

Generally speaking, if you want a nice garden here, then bring your own soil and set up a drip system. You can forget about plant and forget. This is not Kansas. Dig out a foot or so of the existing clay. Buy some railroad ties to form a border. Fill with nice dirt. Wrap some chicken wire (or similar) around the top to keep out the bunnies. Plant, water, wait, and eat.

Thanks for the response. The soil looked like clay and you confirmed it. Is this the case in all areas? Looks like a garden is possible with much work and attention.
