Thanks for the advice. I thought the commute would be asking too much and from the concensus, it seems it is. I don't want to be one more relocater whining about the heat but--well, I guess I am! I just wanted a community a little smaller and cooler than Phx. Not so crazy about suburbs and don't need the schools...

That's always the Catch22 with Prescott. Nice area to live in but horrid area to have a job in. That is why it is mostly comprised of retiree's and independently wealthy people. Not much of a middle class, except in PV and CV. Even then, it is mostly a middle/lower class.

Look at it this way. The heat wave for Phx is over from now (October) thru probably May.

Here is the avg high/low temps for Phx:
October 90/55
November 76/43
December 67/37
January 67/37
February 72/41
March 77/45
April 86/51
May 95/59

June - Sep 107/74

The next 8 months will be nice.

Once June hits, then yes, it will be very hot in Phx. You will have 4 months of extreme heat (June - Sep).

Prescott's avg. highs for Oct-May range from 51-74 degrees & their avg. lows are 23-43 degrees. With many nights dropping into the teens and even single digits.

The mile high altitude during winter really causes a steep drop in nighttime temps. Man, it can be 65 in the day and by early morning the next day it can be 10 degrees. Going to work at 6AM, there are many mornings the outside temps are hovering in the single digits or teens.

I drive it several times a week and depending on time of day, you can make it in 1.5 hours to the valley. It should be better once the construction is finished on I -17 near the 101. The drive does get to be tiresome but there is also a shuttle you can take for about $20. If he worked from home 2 days a week it would be more feasible. The closer you can get to I-17 the better. I recommend looking at Anthem. The commute would be significantly less.
