Prescott to Glendale commute?
My husband and I are relocating to Az and he has a job in the northern Glendale area. Is it out of the question to commute from Prescott?

Boy that would be a very tough commute. Pity your poor husband. You're not close to I17 so all you have is I69 and that 2 lane road out to I 17. Cherry road I think. Maybe someone has an easy route and will chime in.

I cannot imagine making that drive every day. It's a long drive to do on a daily basis, and I-17 closures due to accidents are not unusual; then you are really stuck. There are a lot of nice places to live in the northwest Valley with an easy commute to that job.

WOW! You would be looking at putting on 200 miles per day on your car, 48,000 miles per year. It would be at least a 2 hour drive, each way. Plus, I-17 is a disaster because of road construction from the 101 up to Anthem.
Yes, it is out of the question to commute to Glendale for a daily job. You would have to buy a new car every 3 years.

It's quite a drive everyday, if you want to live in Prescott. It's probably a little over 2 hours or so to do it. I don't know. Unless you really love to drive long distances everyday, then it shouldn't be a problem, I guess.

You would be spending over 4+ hours a day just driving. With an 8 hour work day, it would turn to 12 hours. If you left at 7AM, you wouldn't be back home until 7-8PM. Your whole day is lost.
I hear your pain. Finding a good paying job in Prescott is next to impossible but living in Prescott is what you desire. That is why the area suffers so much. Most of the people living here are retired, wealthy, or just struggling to make it. There is no real "middle class". Tha greedy politicians and land barrens turned this area into what it is today. There was no thorough planning or design. It was all about greed and power.
I have to drive to Phx for medical care, as Prescott is abysmal with 8 month waiting lists just to see a specialist. Once this health care thing goes through, I would expect people in Prescott to wait 3 years to see a doctor. Might as well reserve your cemetery plot while you wait.

Yes, It would be a good commute. I wouldn't let that discourage you, if that is what your willing to do.
I have know friends commuting from a town in central Ca. (Stocton) to (Menlo Park Ca) every day for the pass ten yrs. 2 1/2 hours one way.
If the commute gets to be to much, you may find someone to share the ride with. Go for it.

That's crazy. Don't let Al Gore find out about his "carbon footprint". Racking-up 40,000+ miles a year driving to work is insane. All the oil changes, gas, and maintenance on the car.
The other issue is that there is only ONE way to get to Prescott from Glendale, that is I-17 & Hwy 69, and I-17 is always jacked up with construction and road closures due to accidents. Two hours driving time is in ideal conditions. Other times it can take up to 3 hours.
There is a back road, curvy, mountainous way to get there but that would take almost 4 hours.
That job better pay 100k+ per year. Then it would be worth it, if you can deal with the driving aspect, because the pay would offset the money & time lost in driving.

Yall wouldn't happen to be wealthy and own your own Cessna airplane would you? I know quite a few people who own their own small plane and fly all over Arizona for work. He could fly from Prescott direct into Glendale municipal airport every day. That would be about an hour flight each way, and he would rack up flight time. Its win win.
It would be cheaper to purchase and maintain the airplane than the car.
