I totally agree with the OP re: low paying jobs and housing too high. I'm looking at relocating too. I like it here, (been here two yrs) have made some good friends, will hate to leave, but i can't afford to live here.

Thank you to all those who agree and tell the truth that this town is NOT an easy place to make a living.
Housing is EXTREMELY high and pay is extremely LOW. The only people "flourishing" in this town are those who have ties with the families that owned ranches and now are loaded with money as they own real estate. Then those who buy & sell land, build homes, sell real estate, are the ones making the $$$.
"I tell ya, there's a bunch of drunk, drug addicted, rednecks in this stupid town...I'm glad I'm getting out of here for Memorial Day...Thank you, God..."

I have heard this from A LOT of people. Making a living in Prescott or PV is VERY difficult. As I stated, those who make it here are independently wealthy, real estate dealers , and those who have ties with the ranching families of Prescott & PV.

Speaking of drunks
Speaking of drunks, the present Mayor of Prescott was busted for drunk driving by a Prescott police officer several years ago.
Then when his term expired, he ran for re-election and was re-elected for a
second term.
Hope everyone enjoys the Memorial Day weekend.

PRESCOTT - A Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputy who is in jail on drug charges was the former leader of the Aryan Nations white supremacist group in Washington in the early 1990s, the Sheriff's Office says.
Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Justin L. Dwyer, 39, on Sunday after a tip from a jail inmate about Dwyer's alleged cocaine use prompted a month long investigation.
On Sunday, while off duty, Dwyer obtained a usable amount of cocaine and drove to a convenience store at the intersection of Gurley and Sheldon St., in Prescott where deputies arrested him, the Sheriff's Office says.
"We learned that Dwyer was hired with the knowledge that he had been a former member of the Aryan Nation up in the State of Washington," Rhodes said. "He was hired by previous Sheriff Buck Buchanan. Buck had the knowledge of Dwyer's background at the time. I have no idea why he was hired, but he was".

A friend of mine, who works at the jail in Prescott, knew this person and told me about it. He said that when they went to his house to get an idea of how he lived, they found swatzikas and Nazi stuff hanging on the walls of Dwyer's house. How bizarre!!!! Now I know there are freaks here. I knew all along...I never trusted anyone who lives here, anyway. That's just me...

Very Happy to Move OUT of Prescott Valley
I lived in the tri-city area for 10 years. I finally move out of Prescott Valley last year and it was the best thing I've done in my life!

Quailwood is primarily (i.e., 4/5 or more) built by Empire homes. Townsend only purchased one section of quailwood and most of the Townsend's homes in Quailwood were completed before her demise. Of course that doesn't help the current owners with regard to warrantees.
The more scary area is Park Ridge in Viewpoint. That is a gated community that was built primarily by Townsend. The place looks like a ghost town with half built houses on every street.

TN Gal, where are you in AZ, and how do you like it compared to TN? I grew up in TN and part of my heart will always be there. Just curious how another TN gal looks at the differences.

Trisher - I moved from TN (Chattanooga, Signal Mtn) about 2yrs ago. I'm presently in Prescott Valley. All my family is back in TN and I miss them, but I-40 & SW Airlines both head east! TN is beautiful, green, mtns, rivers (with water actually in them!). But I don't miss the humidity & bad storms & the 'skeeters! I love the desert. I love the baren mountains, you can really see their shape. I love driving down to PHX (not too often) and looking at the cactus along the highway. And I love driving up toward Flag and seeing the landscape change from high desert to pines. I love the never ending sky and the most beautiful sun rises and sun sets. I love reading about then driving out to find old western towns. I love going into Prescott for breakfast on the weekends and seeing the Arizona Regulators (re-enactment group in period attire!) dining in the same place! I love being able to visit the Grand Canyon often & driving through that area up there. I'm hoping to get down toward Bisbee, Tombstone, Douglas area this fall. I like the idea that if some year I decide to attend the NFR & Cowboy Christmas in Vegas its just about a 5 hr drive.
I am trying to get used to the constant wind up here. I hate the fact that the housing is high here for the wages that are paid. I honestly don't see how a one income family can afford to live here without room mates. Sure there are a couple rental houses under $1,000 a month, but sheesh. . . not on the wages here! I guess alot of ppl commute to PHX for work. I was considering relocating to Amarillo, TX, but that has been postponed.
Basically I really like AZ the good & bad!
