Default Help! Rim road will be closed and i want to camp!

My buddies and I always camp off of Rim Rd and with the snow this year the road will not be open when we have planned to camp. We have already taken the time off of work so we have to go the Last weekend of March. Please suggest a dispersed camp site that you know is awesome. Were looking for a place anywhere near Prescott, Camp Verde, Sedona or Payson. Trees are a must. Rivers and Lakes, not so much but that's cool too.

Thank you for your suggestions,
Matt L.

I am all for dispersed camping over the typical crowded campsites. Last time I was in Prescott we found an awesome dispersed site, and you can make it out there in a regular car if needed, but I would suggest a high-clearance vehicle, we took out Sentra out there and it was a little rough, some deep ruts you have to maneuver around.

Here is the official map of the dispersed campsites: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/prescott/rec...ed-camping.jpg

Here is where we camped at: Google Maps

I zoomed into the spot we camped at, at least the general area.

Are you looking for a Campsite or some real in the woods in a sleeping bag camping? I camped at the Deadhorse Ranch in Cottonwood in January 08. It was a pretty nice place, real quiet (until my buddies and I all got there.) It is wooded slightly, in the middle of everything. I prefer camping in the woods, but one of our friends was a real sissy, and his vehicle at the time wouldn't have been able to make it where we wanted to go. (too much snow.)

We like camping in the woods where no one will find us and were there are no facilities.

Depending on what kind of vehicle you have, you can find countless places around Crown King. Just pick and road and drive until you feel far enough away. You can drive from Crown King to Prescott through the woods.

Crown King is about where the tree line starts and it has large trees. You can go another 1500 feet above Crown King on trails. You can get from there to Prescott easily with a stock 4x4.
