NFL teams are Private Institutions that can be moved, relocated at the whim of the Owner, College teams are permanent parts of the community, but I like the NFL better because it is the Elite, the best of the best players, it has a playoff system meanwhile College doesn't, NFL teams I feel represent, play for the city meanwhile College teams play for the University, for example, if USC or UCLA played for the city, represented L.A., they would be called the Los Angeles Trojans and Los Angeles Bruins
Charlotte. I would consider us more of a College Basketball type town. As for football, The Panthers have a pretty good following even though they are terrible. Collegewise, Clemson and South Carolina have a pretty good following (1-2 hours away).

Football wise, not as big as you might think. Now for basketball, it is a completely different story, hence why I call us a College Basketball town. One year they interrupted the Duke/UNC game to talk about the weather (a storm was happening that night). The next day thousands of hate messages were given to that TV Station. Needlesstosay, it hasn't been interrupted since.
Where I live it goes from high school football ;to cllege to the Dallas cowbys.hrad to reallt tell which is more popular really.Noe they even have junior football leagues for kids upto junior high when they can start palying in school. There are a number of such leagues here.
Northeastern PA (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre)-- I'd say its almost even...people here are fanatical about Penn State football, and Notre Dame has a big following here due to a high Irish-Catholic population, but people seem equally as into the Eagles and Steelers, and even the NY Giants. High school football is huge here also, high school games around here are usually played in front of packed houses (although nothing compared to Texas, where HS teams play in college-sized stadiums).

I'm from New Jersey. NJ is a small state and is stuck in between PA and NY, which makes lots of fans cross over in between the three states. NJ is ruled by Eagles, Giants and Jets fans. College football takes a back seat to pro here, which I enjoy because pro is my preference. I have noticed college football is biggest throughout the south and in small college towns throughout all regions of the United States.
College football totally sucks everwhere. Too deep into the talent pool
100 big schools, with 4,000 players, from a 4-year age cohort, which means 1,000 21-year olds. In the NFL, 32 teams, about 1200 players, through a 12 year cohort, so 100 28-year-olds, with 3 times the experience and maturity as the collegians besides. 90% of college players will never get a look-see in the NFL.
College football is about the same skill level and talent pool depth as Short-season Single-A minor league baseball, like in Johnson City Tennessee or Pocatello Idaho or Burlington Vermont. And people act like it's the center of the universe.
There's not one college team that could win one game out of ten against the Detroit Lions Special Teams lineup and taxi squad.
