I've given a detailed explanation as to the wildcard scenario and how the head-to-head tiebreaker situation with Atlanta is a BIG BIG deal in the love triangle that is shaping up to be the Bears-Detroit-Atlanta fight for the 2 wildcard spots.

If you feel that the Bears will be unable to go 3-3 with hanie vs such powerhouses as the Chiefs, Broncos, Vikings, Seahawks, Raiders....and of course a real powerhouse the Packers then so be it.

If the Bears and Detroit finish with identical records it will get VERY interesting seeing how the tie-breaker criteria flows through. Basically, as long as Detroit beats GB both times even if they donked some easy games they'd have the t-b edge over the Bears.

I personally feel that if Detroit goes 4-2 they make the playoffs and at 3-3 they won't. Had they beaten Atlanta earlier in the season and lost a different game then I think they could go 3-3 and make it.

Great points, wildcard scenarios can get very tricky and losses can play a major part, especially if there are ties, happens every year.

Might want to bookmark this one.....

NFL Tie-Breaking Procedures

For example, if the Bears and Lions wind up tied....

Quote:
Two Clubs
1.Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3.Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5.Strength of victory.
6.Strength of schedule.
7.Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8.Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9.Best net points in common games.
10.Best net points in all games.
11.Best net touchdowns in all games.
12.Coin toss
This goes to show how volatile it can get in that if the Bears go 4-2 down the stretch but lose to GB and the Vikings....and Detroit goes 4-2 the Bears would lose to tie-breaker criteria #2 above.

Very very convoluted.

If Detroit or the Bears can put a loss on GB while the other doesn't....that could very well be the difference maker although they may very well both still get a WC spot.

I remember all the conversation last year when the Giants were left out with a 10-6 record, then you have teams in bad divisions getting in with way less. Giants tied with the Pack, Pack beat them at Lambeau so they were in as the 6th seed.

Getting left out with 10-6 happens. Pats got left out at 11-5 a while back.

Well, not exactly.

The Pack, Giants, and Bucs all finished at 10-6, so the head-to-head tiebreaker went out the window. The Packers won the spot based on strength of victory, which means the Packers beat teams with better records than the Giants and Bucs did (the Giants and Bucs didn't really beat any good teams last year).

Thanks for that explanation! I definitely was over simplifying it, I think.

Wonder now how Lions will recover after losing to the Pack today and if they will get a wild card. I'm thinking Suh might be out a game or two. He is totally defiant, saying he was trying to walk away, he pushed on the helmet to get himself up and wasn't kicking, people are misinterpreting. Please!

Fat Albert was axed 5 games for stomping on a guys head. Suh will get 2-3.

Lions hung tough despite penalties and Suh snapping and losing Smith. The next few weeks will be tough but I expect a few wins. Stafford needs go make better decisions, though, to secure more wins.

Stafford is young, he'll be good. He tries to force it in places he shouldn't, but he has a good arm.

Game today was not what I expected, I was shocked such a low score in the 1st half. I really thought Matt and Aaron would be in a shoot out.

My problem with Suh is he just doesn't get it. No amount of explaining on his part can justify the film clip. He could be a great player, without intending to harm everyone. His attitude would not last on the Packers for a minute, I blame the coaches, people on the staff of the Lions.
