The Eagles/Colts game penalty for the player touching Eli Manning's helmet was a low point for the season. Didn't a Colts kicker also pretend to be contacted and force a penalty? The refs are soon going to be reduced to being laughingstocks and the players will make them look like stooges.
It's a high risk, contact sport. It's supposed to be dangerous. Yeah, Goodell needs to be commissioner of lady's tennis or maybe Little League baseball.
We're learning more and more about brain trauma - and its irreversible condition. The sport needs to evolve. There's no reason why 40-yr old ex-players need to have dementia or memory loss equivalent to an 90-yr nursing home patient. The NFL, as a business, is responsible to an extent for the safety of its players. Players need to learn the rules and not go helmet-to-helmet. Did anyone see Ray Lewis's interview on NFL Network last night. He doesn't get those penalties because he doesn't tackle by leading with his head.

Now I dont mind the league protecting its players BUT they are NFL players. They knew what they were signing up for and they get paid well because of it.

The guy's name is Peyton, not Eli.
You can not touch a QB's head. PERIOD.
Kickers and punters have been faking contact and drawing penalties for decades. Get over it.

We're not a savage nation. This isn't the days of gladiators. Regardless of whether players (who sign up and know what they're getting into) are able to risk their lives for a possible big payoff, there's nothing wrong for evolving the game to get rid of wreckless, vicious, paralyzing or brain jarring hits. A players life isn't worth it, no matter what bloodthirsty fans want to see. Maybe WWE is more your sport. The game has changed over the years - and this won't dramatically change the sports, imo.
