NASCAR died from (among other things) too much tinkering to the rules and nit-picking. Looks like the NFL is heading down the same path. Roger Goodell will be the death of the NFL.

The best in the interest of the NFL are NOT served by a player getting paralyzed, otherwise injured for life or killed as result of a hit to the head. I completely support prohibiting and fining helmet to helmet hit. I don't support fining players for legal hits to the body.

It's a tough game and people are going to get hurt. But let's do everything possible to avoid egregious injuries.

Just think of what the NFL would look like if all the defensive players had their way. Just about every team would be playing with their second or third string players by midseason. Wouldn't that be wonderful for the game.

You don't see any defensive players whine about rules put into place to protect them against illegal cut blocking. I'm sure if it were made legal tomorrow and a few players were hurt every week because of it, they'd be all a-okay with it, because, after all, "that's football." This isn't some sissy girlie sport, even though they whine like girls when the league takes measures to put an end to head hunting.

Let's put your most important, highest paid player out on the field, with the least amount of protection, then let defensive guys take illegal hits at that player and not do anything about it.

That makes a lot of sense OP.

Just like in NASCAR things have to change with the times. Defensive players today are stronger and faster than defensive players 50 years ago. Change is not always good, but if the changes are in place to protect the health and welfare of players, then they should be enforced.

How many QB's in the NFL in the past 50 years have been paralyzed from a dirty/illegal hit?

Why not just make it to where the QB can't be touched. It would be easier to enforce.
