and besides, the new rule change is stupid...both teams should be given an oppurtunity to run their offense...with this new rule, if you win the coin toss, recieve the kickoff and score a TD, game over...how is that any better than the past rules??
It is better because most teams were content and played for Field Goals in OT. This makes teams have to be more aggressive to end the game on the first possession. If you notice most games in the NFL that go into overtime end with a FG. This rule isn't as big as it would have been in past years though, since there have been a considerable amount of OT games this year that have not ended on the first possession. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I would not be surprised if this year had the least amount of OT games won on the first possession of the period ever.

why doesn't the NFL just get rid of kickers and punters seemingly they have no respect from the fans and the league b/c they're too effeminate or something like that. Can't bench press enough to grow their man boo_bs I guess.

field position is increadibly important and can win the game.

every 5th play in football is a special teams play.... but the league and it's fans perpetuate a non-so-veiled-hatred for them.... strange.

kicking a field goal is legitimate for 60mins, why not in OT??? the team still has to drive down the field and put them in position to win the game.

What?????? Who said anything about getting rid of the kickers? REAL football fans appreciate good kickers and punters. If you look at my post in the Jets forum I told their fans that their bad kicking game is going to limit how far they can go in the playoffs. Adam Vineteri was one of the Pats must popular players when he was there. It's not about taking away the kicking game, it is about giving the team that lost the coin toss a fighting chance. The FG kickers nowadays are so good and have such a long range that teams only have to get to the 40 yard line and then they just run it 2 times and kick the game winner. With this rule change you can still do that, but they will do that with the risk of possibly losing if the other team scores a TD.
