Having just watched the Packers beat the Eagles 2 things happened at the end of the game I don't understand why the rules are the way they are.

1. On the 2 point conversion, the Eagle receiver goes out of bounds, comes back and catches the ball. That is a penalty. The Eagles are given another try with a 5 yard penalty. That doesn't seem right to me.

The 2 pt conversion should be called "no good" and that is it.

2. If a player goes down with an injury and the the clock is stopped the team is charged a time out to stop teams from faking an injury in order to stop the clock.

In the same game as no.1, the Eagles have a player go down and the clock is stopped. They have no more time out but, the clock is still stopped.

A team could fake an injury in order to stop the clock if they have no more time outs to call.

I think the team should be penalized 5 yards.

What do you think?

You watch, in five, ten years, there will be an MRI mini, lightweight magnetized machine that can be wheeled out, the scan is performed in about 5-10 minutes. The owners and advertisers will be all for this, as it will create about 3 more minutes of additional advertising time. Can you imagine if the MRI scan is sponsored by Budweiser, and a virtual logo is draped over the magnet as it is carted out onto the field?

The severity of the results of the injury can be ascertained by on the field medical personnel, who convey their findings to the officiating crew.

I say this only half in jest.

I believe if a player is injured in the last 2 minutes and the team has no time out's,they run time off the clock before re-starting play.

The reason they got to redo the 2 pt conversion is because that foul is not a loss of down so they only get penalized yardage instead of losing the opportunity.

There are two punishments that happen on penalties, loss of down and loss of yardage. Certain penalties are tied to one or the other or both. A player going out of bounds and then touching the ball first is only loss of yardage.
