The team that sells the most apparel changes from time-to-time. Just 4 or 5 years ago it was the Bears. In the mid to late 90s it was the Packers. The Steelers dont lead that category all the time. I am sure it was the Patriots a few years back.

The Steelers, Packers, Cowboys, Redskins, and probably the Bears are the teams that have the largest fanbases in the league. There really isnt away to prove who has the biggest fanbase.

The phrase Steeler Nation has nothing to do with the popularity of the Steelers. Steeler Nation just refers to the team's overall fan base nationwide. I have heard (Insert Team Here) Nation for just about every NFL team or any sports team really. You can use that with any team Packer Nation, Raider Nation, Bronco Nation.

No indictment in GA. No civil case. No nothing. You don't fire a guy based on an accusation from a woman. Period. There is a right to due process in the country, isn't there?

Most of the other incidents you mentioned included legal or league action. edit> Holmes was already busted once for Possesion and was about to get another 4 gamer from NFL fo violation of the substance abuse policy. Reed was arested -TWICE. Apples and oranges.
This is his second issue with women complaining about him. Can he be a target for an overzealous woman to try and make some money? Sure. However, if the Steelers want to be considered this classy franchise that is clean, they would have gotten rid of this bum. I'm not saying they should or that he has no right to play. Of course he does. However, the typical Steeler fan prides themselves of being a fan of a clean franchise which is proven to not be the case. Anyway, I would go one step further and say that his punishment was too severe. Same thing with Harrison's hit on Massequoi, but that's another topic.

Speaking of Harrison, there's another player that doesn't fit the "classy" or clean mantra the Steelers are trying to evoke, does it?

My bottom line is the Steelers are no better than any other team with the type of thugs they got on their team. I'm also saying that my point that the Roethlisberger will be forgiven the minute he guides the Steelers to their first win during the season. All is forgiven.

Real 24kt gold is yellow. The crap that you think of as gold is an alloy.

I will say this (and you can go back and look at all my posts during the "Ben" issues off the field to substantiate)
How I feel about Ben as a person and how I feel about Ben as a QB/athlete are two entirely different things. But I am not going to sit here and call him names because there was NEVER any proof! Does that mean I don't believe the second girl? (The first girl was proven that she was after money). Does that mean I don't believe Ben? Neither. There is NO PROOF to substantiate either side of the story.

He did something or he wouldnt have apologized and the league would not have suspended him. We will never know the whole story.

There has been evidence that Big Ben has gotten an ego that lead him to believe he is invincible and untouchable. (i.e. driving a motorcycle wrecklessly without a helmet and thinking that every women wants to have sex with him and will do so when he wants)

Because they are good and there are a lot of frontrunners.

Think back 10 years and remember how many Rams fans there were. Now look around. Same with the Bulls, the Cowboys (although they are still pretty popular it's nothing like the mid 90's), the 49ers, etc....

If the Lions or Browns or Texans ever start winning Super Bowls they will have legions of frontrunner fans too.

He never apologized for "raping" a girl!! He apologized for the "unwanted and negative publicity it brought to my family, the Steeler organization, the Rooneys, my teammates and the fans." The league suspended him for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, not for "raping" someone. Here is a quoted statement from Goodell himself...

"My decision today is not based on a finding that you violated Georgia law, or on a conclusion that differs from that of the local prosecutor," Goodell wrote in his letter. "That said, you are held to a higher standard as an NFL player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible, or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans."

I do agree with this statement: There has been evidence that Big Ben has gotten an ego that lead him to believe he is invincible and untouchable.

You must have me confused with someone else.

I have NO idea why the Steelers chose the particular shade of yellow/gold. I was not in on that decision.
Maybe you can email the Steelers front office for an answer.

Sorry.

They were the first dynasty of the Super Bowl era and their dynasty was a solid 4 SBs in 6 years. It was also a great team that was fun to watch. I have one friend here in Boston who is a fan and these are the reasons why.

I keep hearing this "smashmouth" term thrown around quite a bit when describing the Steelers. Well this Patriots fan is not familiar with the style as it hasn't seemed to have been executed to any effectiveness against New England.

Translated into English, Goodell is saying to Ben: "even though you're a scumbag, you're a scumbag that makes us a lot of money, so we're going to sugarcoat this and sweep it under the rug, so try not to let it happen again." They've been doing the same thing with Michael Vick.

And the truth is, if either one of them were 2nd or 3rd stringers, they'd be out of the league for good and selling used cars. But $$$$$ talks.
