Ravens vs. Redskins?? (AFC, draft, coaches, shoes) - - City-Data Forum

I unfortunately reside on the eastern shore of maryland (temporarily) for school, im originally from baltimore, and today i had an interesting debate with a redskins fan, he talked about how the redskins are deeply rooted in the history of the nfl and he gladly boasted about the fact that they are the most valuable team in the nfl!!! Which is all fine and dandy!! Now i like the redskins and if for some reason they made it to the playoffs and the ravens didn't i would root for them, but this guy told me the ravens suck and are absolute bums, and that he was rooting for the steelers all season!! Then i politely reminded him that when speaking to a baltimorean, thats a pretty good way to get knocked the f#%@ out!!

(this is not to bash redskins fans, again i like you guys, just why the anger)

redskins fans is there some sort of animosity towards the ravens because we are a much younger franchise and have become more successful??

Well at least on the field where it counts, yes you guys are the wealthiest sports team, but no offense your dollars don't equal wins!!

Also we are the 8th most valuable nfl team, which is nothing to laugh at!! Seeing as though we've only been around since 2001!!!

Every fan base has it's morons... sounds like you met one from the Redskins! I am a Redskin fan and do not feel that way about the Ravens... I may not like certain players such as Ray Lewis but I don't hate the Ravens. Don't judge the whole fan base solely based on one conversation with one jack... they don't represent the rest of us although we have our fair share of idiot fans! A real 'Skins fan would be humbled enough by Dan Snyder ownership and his idiotic moves that they wouldn't talk much junk because they'd know that we suck! Cheers Ravens fan!

P.S. I have met several Ravens fan and seen some on here even who absolutely hate the 'Skins and have said some aweful things... I guess it works both way... It would be cool if they were in the same division!

X-Greensboro and manderly6 are right. There are jerks like that everywhere you go. Though I haven't traveled to stadiums for years, I've been in several of them. There's always have been a tad of trash talk when I've gone to a game, especially when it involves long standing rivals.

Ravens/Redskins as rivals? Other than logistics, no. The Ravens have only been a team since 1996. Redskins and the Cowboys? That's different. Keep in mind though a rivalry isn't a rivalry until two teams become better than the other division foes and slug it out for division titles. And neither the Cowboys or the Redskins have been doing that since the early 1990's.

i agree 100% you can only be a rivalry when your going head to head in the same division!! But for some reason i get a lot of flack from redskins fans, its tons of them on the eastern shore!! And yes we have been around since 96, i said 01 cause no one paid us any attention until then!!

I lived in the DC area for 6 years and I detest the Redskins and the Ravens are my favorite AFC team.

I think the envy from Redskins fans comes from the fact that the Ravens has an owner and GM that actually knows what he is doing most of the time. Plus having a ring in the last ten years and very respectable records and playoff success will bring a little envy also.

Dan Synder has no idea on the concept of team-building while Ozzie Newsome is one of the best team-builders in the NFL. Unlike Synder, Newsome drafts well and makes only occasional big-ticket free agent signings.

I think any envy from Skins fans has to do that only one hour from them, a Baltimore team is well-built and has success.

BACKGROUND INFO: I am a lifelong Washingtonian of 30+ years. I am a die-hard Steelers fan, but try my darndest to support the skins.

No. I think the Redskins-Ravens animosity is deeper than football; it's cultural. DC and Baltimore have a history of animosity. No two, major, cities can be closer, yet so different.

And, this hate goes both ways. Baltimore throws its fair share of jabs. Sometimes, from a Washingtonian perspective, it feels as though there is an inferiority complex going on. I think if both cities didn't compete so much against one another, your continual Redskins-Ravens debates would be less frequent and more civil.

On a personal note, for anyone who cares to read this, I could care less about which of the 32 teams are richest or poorest, they are all getting money and I am not getting any of their "pie" - not one fraction.

Again, on a personal note, I don't wish the Ravens any success because their owner owns the most racist organization I've ever encountered, Aerotek, and I pray that everything he does fails miserable. Sorry Baltimore fans, just a little personal experience that I've had with his company. I am not saying he is a racist, but his organization darn sure is (or was circa 1997). And, most black people who worked/s there would co-sign this statement.

Actually, you can put a little asterik by this statement. Baltimore has a deep history in football, they just were without a team for X years due to the Colts leaving.

So true, i think thats more of a financial thing than anything else! I have noticed that among baltimorean's!! I don't know i guess i just never grew up with that issue. Baltimore born and raised but most of my family works in d.c. I think the cities are very different but more similar than either want's to admit! Well at least when it comes to the situation of our people (black people) crime, poverty, drug abuse, and the wealth gap!! As far as i'm concerned baltimore and d.c. Different toilet, same ****!!!

Totally agree. In fact, even though I am a DIE-HARD Steelers fan and must profess hatred for the Ravens (unless their record is 8-7 and we are 12-3 and a shoo-in for the playoffs), I LOVE the Ravens when they play in their all black uniforms. They need to keep that going. Additionally, Ray Lewis is the only reason why I cannot say that I don't truly hate Baltimore, I love the way he comes out of that tunnel and plays the game. He reminds me of Joey Porter. I was so ticked off when Ray Lewis re-signed with Baltimore. If he would have joined us in Steel City, we would have won the Super Bowl this year.

But, back on topic. Although I am a Washingtonian, I try not to get wrapped up and too protective of DC. Like you said, as black people, or people period, I don't own none of this and I am not bound by DC. In fact, my wife is from NW or West Baltimore off of Reistertown Road. We have not killed each other, yet. See, DC and Baltimore can get along.

I will say that I think the Redskins fans are kinda mad that the Ravens are becoming the darlings of the "BW area" due to their winning record and drama-free front office. Put yourself in their shoes. They have been the staple franchise of this region and now they've got an owner and a coach, or coaches, that are producing garbage on the fields and people are talking more about a team 45 minutes north than the team in their back yard.

I could've lived with anyone owning the Ravens and being successful, EXCEPT for Steve Bisciotti. His company Aerotek was/is racist to the core and for that reason I will never wish him any success in life. I'm sorry, for those reasons I cannot do it. DO NOT WORK FOR AEROTEK IF YOU ARE BLACK. BMOREFELLA, If you know someone looking for a job in Linthicum, MD, off of Route 100, tell them to stay the heck away from Aerotek, Allegis or whatever he wants to call his companies now. If you are white with a HS diploma, you will get 4 promotions in 6 months time; if you are black with a BA or MBA, you will be put through hell and fired.
